Satellite images indicate an "enormous" amount of sargasso heading toward Q Roo LINK
Satellite images, including those of NASA, indicate there is an area of sargasso with a diameter of about 550 kilometers (342 miles) is heading toward the Quintana Roo coast, and is about 1000 kilometers (621 miles) away. This has been announced by a monitoring network that uses information from 20 institutions, who say there has been a significant accumulation in the last two weeks concentrated to the west of Jamaica.
They say due to the prevailing currents and the south-southeast winds, the sargasso is expected to arrive at medium to high intensity during the next week to coasts of Quintana Roo, affecting mainly the southern and central region of the state. This includes 260 kilometers of coastline between Tulum and Xcalak, on the border with Belize.
At the President's press conference in Cancun on Monday morning, he said the sargasso 'is not a problem, it's a situation' which is occurring in many countries. He said it will be addressed without hiring private companies.
Maritima employees concerned over liquidation of company LINK
Employees were called in one by one to be told individually about the final closure of the Maritima company, and some have sought legal advice concerning the possibility of a labor lawsuit. There are some who have worked for the company for twenty to thirty years. Partners in the company have said there are about 10 million pesos in debts.
52 million pesos to address the issue of sargasso in Quintana Roo LINK
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the Secretary of the Navy, José Rafael Ojeda Durán, said that that sargosso is a situation affecting 995 kilometers of beach, that doesn't occur every day, and isn't an emergency. He said, "Not everything is just about money because in the past six years (of the previous administration) a lot of money was invested, everything was contracts, everything was compromised, and the issue wasn't resolved."
He plans to invest 52 million pesos, of which 45 million will come from SHCP (Ministry of Finance and Public Credit) and 7 million from SECTUR (Ministry of Tourism). With this money, 4 sargaceras will be built for 30 million pesos, containment barriers will be purchased for 14.5 million pesos, a sweeper for 5.5 million pesos, and other materials and equipment for "Operation Sargazo 2019" at a cost of 1 million pesos, and the installation of two escaterometros along the state coasts at a cost of one million pesos.

There is an overall hotel occupancy rate of 67%, with the rate on the island at 48%, and the Continental Zone is at 80%. It is noted that a good number of visitors were arriving on the ferries, as well as on the catamarans and trimarans coming from the Cancun Hotel Zone. After 18 years in charge of the Board of the Hyperbaric Chamber, Baltazar Gómez Catzín passed the responsibility on to Policarpo Pastrana, the current director of Tourism, during a meeting held on June 19. It was also determined that each fishing cooperatives Isla Blanca, Macax, Caribe, and Patria y Progreso will have a representative on the Board of Trustees.For many years, the Hyperbaric Chamber has been closed during the four month lobster ban, but last season it was decided to keep it open. That way patients receiving treatment for diabetic foot won't have the expenses of traveling to Cancun, and fishermen who suffer decompression, supposedly diving for abadejo (a type of fish) won't have to go to Cancun. The lobster season will resume in a few days on the first of July.

Some tourism service providers and taxi drivers are complaining that the driveway at Punta Sur needs repairs, remarking that some of the potholes 'are so deep they look more like cenotes'.The municipal Tourism Department is retaining its office on Rueda Medina for the convenience of tourists who need information or have complaints, while most of the staff have moved to their new offices in front of the Casa de la Cultura.
With increased construction, there are fewer views of the Caribbean while driving down the coastal road and in the Punta Sur area.

Within ten minutes walk are a variety of restaurants including Mango Cafe, Brisas, Manolitos, La Chatita, Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, and the large department store-grocery , Chedraui. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Attend Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants. It takes 20-30 minutes to walk downtown.

The baseball games at the El Pescador stadium in front of Chedraui are usually held on Sundays, starting around 1p, when there's a 'home' game. .

Turtle nesting season continues throughout June. The turtles nest along the eastern beaches in the wee hours of the night and Tortugranja staff and volunteers gather the eggs and incubate them in a pen outside the facility. Three species nest annually in Isla Mujeres; Greens, Loggerheads, and Hawksbills, and very rarely, a Leatherback will attempt to nest, but the sand usually isn't deep enough. The sex of the turtles is determined by the temperature of the sand, which is common in reptiles.

Whale shark tour season continues throughout June, ending in mid-September.
Saturday June 1 & Sunday June 2: "Dry Law" is in effect for 48 hours, from the first minute on Saturday (00:00, just after Friday midnight) until midnight on Sunday (24:00) when "To Go" (package) sales of alcohol is prohibited. Foreigners in tourism areas, such as Isla Mujeres, may purchase alcoholic beverages, with food, at bars & restaurants. Citizens can't buy alcohol & businesses such as convenience stores cannot sell it.

Saturday, June 1st Dia de la Marina. Events begin with a 5 kilometer race in men's and women's divisions, and another for teens and children, starting in front of Playa Centro at 7am and 8am, with more than 17,000 pesos in cash prizes. Limited to 150 runners in the 5k, and 150 in the youth and children's event.
The official ceremony for National Dia de la Marina will take place at 11am, with a procession of boats in the Bay and placing of a wreath.
On Playa Centro, a beach soccer tournament will start at 11am, with teams of eight people and prizes of 3000, 2000, and 1000 pesos. It will be followed by a beach volleyball tournament at 1pm with teams of two men & two women competing for prizes of 3000, 2000, and 1000 pesos.The festivities will come to a close at 2p, with a Palo Encebado contest.
