From the City government page
Crime prevention program
Tania Galera, director of the crime prevention agency of the municipal police department said there is a list of more than 20 topics to be taught, especially concerning prevention of being a victim of fraud and extortion. She said the courses include holiday safety, peaceful handling and resolution of conflicts, road safety education, telephone extortion prevention, prevention of petty theft,  empathy in the work area, and others.
She said, "Our duty is that all people know what to do, how to act, how to ask for support immediately in case of being a victim or being in danger. We take our experience and information to companies especially so that they are not "easy targets" of fraud or extortion. Likewise, we maintain contact with society in general through fairs held in the neighborhoods where children, youths and adults can learn to distinguish the characteristics of a risky situation, as well as strengthen confidence in the officers of the department."

Tourist miraculously survives fall from cliffs

Turista sobrevive de milagro

A sexagenarian tourist miraculously survived a fall of more than 10 meters from the cliffs of Punta Sur on Isla Mujeres, and was taken to the Community Hospital for medical evaluation after a difficult rescue by paramedics and Civil Protection. Bernard Plance, 60, had crossed the (stone) fence bordering the tourist area at Punta Sur to take a "selfie" when he lost his balance and fell from a rocky area 15 meters above sea level, and landed among rocks below, according to reports by the rescuers.
The accident occurred around  2:20p and after a rescue that took nearly an hour, rescuers were able to load him into the ambulance at 3:15p, with spectators expressing joy and relief.  The visitor was conscious and complaining of pain from the blows he suffered, with visible scrapes on his legs. His French family members, especially his wife, were waiting anxiously and expressed their gratitude to the rescuers.
It is noted that practice rescues have been carried out on these cliffs, due to the difficulty of this procedure, and that service providers have asked that the wooden railings along the lower parts of the cliffs be renovated.

Cleanup of islet "La Carbonera"

Limpian el islote “La Carbonera”

On Earth Day, volunteers organized by Accion Isla removed 700 kilograms of trash from Islote La Carbonera, and last weekend for World Oceans Day about 1400 kilos were removed. Another clean up took place on Saturday and Sunday this weekend, with 67 volunteers participating. The Navy assisted during the week. Participants & sponsors included  Scuba MUSA, México Divers, Pocna Dive Center, Contoy Adventures, Wingdiving Isla Mujeres, Centinelas del Agua A.C., The Ritz-Carlton Cancún, Manta México Caribe, SV RELA, Diego’s Tours, cooperativa Adolfo López Mateo, Apiqroo Isla Mujeres, Capitanía de Puerto Isla Mujeres, Semar, Barracuda Board Co. & Everything Isla Mujeres.

Note:  From Isla Mujeres News & Events on Facebook on Sunday:
The cleanup continues today at Islote Carbonera to remove the remnants of two "bottle islands". One ("Joysxee") was a tourist attraction for many years, but collapsed from neglect while the second was being built for a documentary. Last year, one floated loose during a high tide, endangering other boats & strewing pieces. Then the owner left Mexico & abandoned them, leaving them moored at the islet, which is part of a Protected Natural Area.
They continued to fall apart, with pieces washing up in nearby marinas & becoming entangled in the mangroves. Concerns increased among residents about the >200,000 bottles & the deteriorated structural elements, especially with storm season approaching. Last weekend, volunteers organized by Acción Isla removed more than a ton of trash from the Islote & this week authorities offered assistance. Thank you everyone!!

In 1997, Mr Sowa's first "bottle island" was destroyed by Hurricane Pauline, after he abandoned it on Mexico's Pacific coast in Oaxaca, saying authorities forced him to leave. The second lasted seven years before it was destroyed by Hurricane Emily in 2005. It was located in nearby Puerto Adventuras, Q Roo & consisted of >250,000 bottles, which were strewn along the coast & cleaned up by others.
He came to Isla Mujeres after receiving $40,000 dollars to rebuild, according to Green Travel Life blog, where "Joysxee" received considerable international media attention & was a popular tourist attraction for about a decade. He provided tours in return for donations & offered overnight rentals, which are still listed on Airbnb for $479/nt.
A Kickstarter campaign raised $9500 for improvements to relocate "Joysxee" from the lagoon into the Bay. It was less accessible for tours & rentals there, and collapsed from neglect while a smaller "island" was built for a documentary project.
This and other campaigns say it is Mr. Sowa's vision to see thousands of these 'islands' all over the world; touting it as " a truly pioneering ecological project with a global mission to show what we can do with garbage". However, the history of these projects tells another story & we would like to express our appreciation to the activists, volunteers & authorities who took on this messy job & prevented our reefs, mangroves & beaches from being contaminated by all that trash.

High levels of reservations reported

Las reservaciones ya alcanzan el 90%

Hotel executives and managers say a high level of occupancy is expected this summer in Isla Mujeres because of the cleanliness of its beaches, compared to other destinations that are full of sargasso. A large number of reservations and activity are reported by nautical service providers including whale shark tour providers, dive shops, and the recreational boats such as the catamarans and trimarans.

One less parking lot

Un estacionamiento público menos

The parking lot by the Rocamar hotel and Catholic church, next to the Turtle monument, has been used by the public for two decades, but it is privately owned and no longer available for parking. A construction license has been posted, which is valid throughout the year. On Friday, construction began on a fence to delimit the property of 679.5 square meters.
Individuals and civil servants who have been parking there will presumably be parking at the Casa de la Cultura parking lot.
The Traffic Police have been carrying out an ongoing campaign to 'clean' high traffic roads such as Rueda Medina and are encouraging the use of parking lots, although the number available is insufficient. It has been suggested that the area of the former hospital be converted to a parking lot.

Note...
On Sunday morning, foreign residents reported on Facebook that there was a fire at the Trash Transfer Facility, with a photo, but it hasn't been reported in local media.

Incubation pen Tortugranja (not 2019)

Turtle nesting season continues throughout June. The turtles nest along the eastern beaches in the wee hours of the night and Tortugranja staff and volunteers gather the eggs and incubate them in a pen outside the facility.  Three species nest annually in Isla Mujeres;  Greens, Loggerheads, and Hawksbills, and very rarely, a Leatherback will attempt to nest, but the sand usually isn't deep enough. The sex of the turtles is determined by the temperature of the sand, which is common in reptiles.
