Foreign tourist died
Fallece turista extranjero. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
See yesterday's translations. It is assumed the American, Thomas William Wallis, 54, from Kansas, had a heart problem, which caused his death. He felt badly shortly after entering the water to go snorkeling near "El Farito", and was immediately brought back onto the catamaran. The captain immediately took the boat to shore, to the dock of the "Isla Mujeres" cooperative. They were unable to revive him, and he passed away around 11:45am. The cause of death will be determined by the Quintana Roo prosecutor's office, and the deceased's relative, Connie Wallis, was taking the first steps toward completing the procedures with Mexican authorities, so that the body can be transferred back to his place of origin for burial.
Conflict intensifies
Se recrudece conflictos.. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
A resident of the 'irregular' colonia of La Guadalupana has generated conflict in the community because he wants to be awarded a lot that was intended to be a right of way, which was donated to facilitate access of the fire fighting vehicles after a fire affected several of the homes ('casas de cartón'), at that time.
The issue intensified when a section of what was the Municipal Cemetery wall was removed, because the municipal authorities gave an access to the neighborhood of more than 100 meters long by 2.5 meter.
Events took place on Monday night when men and women proceeded to tear down 10 meters of a wall, in order to connect the street "San Martin de Porres" with the new access. They want to recover lot #19 as a public access so that garbage trucks, gas trucks, and pumping trucks can maneuver through this narrowed access.
The fisherman "Geovanny owns lot #18, but he wants to own #19, and the other residents will not allow it. They have asked for support from the police, to connect the new access thru the cemetery with the street "San Martin de Porres". Manuel Chulin and Edelmira Uh Escalante have said they have already told Geovanny to vacate the lot, and this is what the police are aware of, and if he does not act voluntarily, they will proceed to sue him collectively before the Public Ministry.
They want peace
Eventually he could be evicted if he doesn't correct his behavior, since lately he lacks respect for the children and adults of the community, threatening them, which is not suitable for a healthy coexistence in the community. Other families say he has been looking for 12 years, but the property was donated by Don Amaya and he decided to occupy another one. This is recorded on video, and shown to authorities as proof. Now there is also a question about the 98 square meters that will be donated to the police to install their guardhouse.
It is recalled that in 2005, the two hectare estate was occupied by more than 200 families, and it was later named La Guadalupana, and is a colonia that is in the process of regularization. (acquiring deeds). It currently has public lighting, potable water, and electricity.
Businesses take out the trash at the wrong time
Negocios sacan la basura a destiempo. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Most of the information in this article has been translated already. The trash trucks were making five collections downtown between dawn and midnight to try and keep up with the increased amount of trash downtown. They experienced some delays, due to the traffic jams and detours associated with the dance troupes and parades. The head of Public Services acknowledged that there is a need for more vehicles and said they are attending to the colonias also, as quickly as possible. The street sweeping brigade has been attending to the tourism areas, but are not neglecting the colonias.
