On Monday, Naval personnel conducted a medical evacuation for a person who was on board the cruise ship "Carnival Triumph", which flies a flag from the Bahamas. The Naval command received an emergency call requesting assistance because the passenger has a diagnosis of possible advanced appendicitis. The ship was about 4.3 nautical miles (7 km) south of Isla Mujeres. Coordination was made for a private ambulance to receive the American passenger at the Puerto Juarez Naval Station and provide transport to a hospital for treatment.

On Tuesday, two elementary schools received furniture from the state agency IFEQRoo (Institute of Educational Physical Infrastructure of the State of Quintana Roo). The Cesar Mendoza Santana primary schools received 70 chairs with the desk on the right and 15 with it on the left, 12 pintarrones (blackboards or whiteboards), 12 teacher's desks, and 12 chairs. At the Julion Sauri Espinoza grade school, they received 70 small chair-desks, 12 chairs and 12 tables for the teachers, and 6 pintarrones. The grade school "Andres Quintana Roo" didn't receive anything.

Plans regarding Hyperbaric Chamber

Plan para renovar cámara hiperbárica

They hyperbaric chamber has been in use for 20 years, which is 5 years past its useful life, and the Board that supervises say there is a possibility for financing from the municipal government. They hope this will be announced during the upcoming days, since the lobster season ban season begins on March 1st and continues until June 31. In the past two decades some 1500 fishermen have been treated for decompression in the chamber, which is a rate of 70-75 per year. There have been 61 so far this year. In addition, people suffering from "Diabetic Feet" are treated. (The headline says Plans to Renovate It, but the text and previous articles indicate it needs to be replaced. It was renovated in 2018.)

Need for public transport

Urge el transporte colectivo

Throughout the municipality, on the island and mainland, more than 5000 students returned to school on Monday, but they faced the problem of lack of transportation, so that ten percent arrived to school late. The taxis are insufficient to transport nearly half the schoolchildren and urban transport is urgently needed. Students are also late returning home because of this problem, which causes concern for their family.
During the final days of 2018, the City Council approved new transport regulation, which envisage launching a public appeal for a new urban transport concession throughout the municipality. The previous concession ended three years ago, in an unfortunate manner since poor service was being provided at that time by Turicun.

Cockteleros baseball team gave gifts to children with less opportunity to celebrate the traditional King's Day, and they requested donation from volunteers. Therefore the number of gifts was greater this year than last year and their goal was met.  The gifts were given away at the El Pescador stadium, and there was a festive atmospher for the parents, fans, and athletes who accompanied the children.
It is noted that there will be a large celebration for the Three Kings on Wednesday and Thursday in the in the Continental Zone and on the island, at 5p and 4p, at the dome and the Bicentennial Dome, respectively.
The first Civic Ceremony of the year was held on Monday at the Town Square with grade school children in attendance.
