It is noted that the hotel was inaugurated in 1964 as the Zazil Ha by President Adolfo Lopez Mateo, as a luxurious property with nearly 100 rooms. It was the first of its kind in the area of the Yucatan peninsula, and was owned by the Lima Zuno family, but it was handed over to the federal government after a problem with debt.
Then it operated under several different names, including Presidente, Del Prado, Avalon, and now Mia. It was inactive after the hurricane Gilberto, and reopened and expanded after the arrival of the new millennium.
