ISLA MUJERES, Sept. 24 .- The Isla Mujeres Taxi Union is analyzing the possibility of putting combis or Urvans into operation the service of transport of passengers, because the island has lacked this type of service for about two years.

This proposal has become stronger in recent days, as the number of complaints among users of land passenger transport services are increasing, especially among people with limited resources who can't afford taxi services.
In this regard, union leader Eduardo Peniche Rodríguez said that he is in a process of analysis with the intention of putting into operation two or three combis or Urvans to provide public transportation.
He said the union of taxi drivers Isla Mujeres already has the vehicles, but putting them into operation isn't that easy, because it requires the permission of the municipal and state governments.
However, he said that talks have been held and discussions are taking place with the municipal authorities to find the means necessary to have this service on the island, but that there are still aspects that are unclear.
Mr. Peniche Rodríguez said that the Isla Mujeres Taxi Union is in the best position to provide this service, but that there are some difficulties.
It should be noted that this service would benefit hundreds of users of the land passenger service, as it is much cheaper than the taxi service.

Taxi drivers want gasoline vouchers
Taxistas piden vales de gasolina .. [+] Ver masFull article at this link

"We are proposing to establish gasoline vouchers for drivers who do not discriminate against schoolchildren, which is currently occurring, as a means of encouraging them," said Luis Venegas. He gave himself as an example of himself, saying that he paid 500 pesos daily to his employer to use the vehicle all day. He usually provides service to the students, but on many occasions, during this low season, there is not much income. However, he continues with his social commitment, but not everyone picks up the schoolchildren, who are then left to wait for long periods. Students pay eight pesos while residents pay 15 pesos.
It is noted that the contract for bus service expired on May, 16, 2016, but service hasn't been available for a year and a half.
