Power outages along Medina
Muchos “apagones” en el malecón .. [+] Ver masPhoto &full article at this link
On Sunday, a power outage  from 1pm to 6:30pm affected some of the small downtown businesses, along Rueda Medina, the main street. On Monday, the service was suspended at noon, restored briefly, and then suspended again, with CFE personnel attempting to reactivate it at 3pm. About 30 businesses were affected, along a stretch of about 200 meters, starting a few meters from the Maritime Terminal, to the gas station.
The merchants say the new shopping mall "Don Agustin", which opened in May, is the source of the problem. They say this is because the shopping plaza lacks its own substation and the CFE (Federal Electricity Commission) has not been able to resolve the problem, which has been going on for two months. They are particularly upset about the outage on Sunday afternoon, because that is when visitors arrive in large numbers, and they lost business when their digital systems were down, and of course air conditioners were not functioning. They blame the mall and want the municipal Civil Protection agency to intervene and to ensure that guidelines and protocols are being followed regarding electrical service and safety.

Preparations for the many people arriving are in full swing, and the Safety Committee has been installed. The Zofemat (Federal Zone) Committee held a meeting to report on the physical and financial progress for the second trimester of 2016.

Last week the Isla Mujeres team "Tuzos", beat Bonfil, 3-1, in the Children's category of the minor soccer league "Guillermo Canedo", and won the tournament. They received the championship trophy on Sunday afternoon. The champion scorer was Cesar Diaz Murillo, 'Chicharito", who scored two goals in the final game against the Ejidatarios of Bonfil.
Recently the Tuzos of Isla Mujeres have been involved in several leagues and played in three championships, of which they won two. They won the Isla Mujeres league, in this Canedo league, and were runners up in the Taxi Driver's league.
They are a subsidiary of the First Division Club Tuzo National futbol league, and their managers plan to keep the same team and encourage them to advance to the regional tournaments, where they can be seen by some of the top promoters of Mexico's children and youth futbol teams.

The Isla Mujeres Scholarship Program is excited to announce a new matching event to add sponsors and funding for our scholarship students for the 2016/2017 school year!!! I like to call it July Matchapalooza. :-) because, let’s be honest, everything is more fun when you add 'palooza' to it or when your donation gets doubled.
Our very generous anonymous donor has agreed to another round of matched funds for any new sponsors or donations. That’s right – your donations will be doubled!
*Any new sponsors who join/pledge in the month of July
*Any one time donations
Need more information or have questions? Check out our website or Margaret Washa. We would LOVE to tell you about the wonderful students who are supported by our program because we are terribly proud of them. This is an ideal time to join the program and make the most out of your contribution or to make a one time contribution (we understand if you have commitment issues)
Our facebook page is Isla Mujeres Scholarship Group, please join us there for photos and personal stories from our group. And check out our wonderful new website (thanks, Jackie Conlon!)

Starting in July, the Artist's Fairs are being scheduled twice a month, on the First and Third Thursdays, at the Casa de Cultura, 4-9.
