Resources from a federal program were presented for three business projects by women from Rancho Viejo, who each received 100,000 pesos to start their own businesses. The projects include a butcher shop, "La Vaca Linda"; a water purification plant, "Purificadora Tania"; and a loncheria diner, "Doña Lucha".   A young women was going to a pharmacy in colonia La Gloria when her scooter was hit by a taxi, which witnesses claimed was speeding. The taxi driver, Faustino Díaz Ovando, was traveling on  Jesús Martínez Ross Avenue from south to north, when he hit Mari Cruz Villaseñor, 25, whose black Italika scooter skidded about 15 meters on the pavement, according to witnesses.
The accident occurred outside the office of the Hacienda around noon, when the primary school students were getting out of school, and many parents were going to collect them. Ms Cruz had small scrapes on her hands and denied having pain elsewhere. Traffic police were nearby and took take care of things. The passengers in the taxi said they had been frightened by the shock, and that the taxi was speeding. They got out to find another cab and continue on their way.
Preliminary information indicates these types of traffic accidents occur when someone exceeds the speed limit of 40 kph in the urban part of the island. It is noted when these types of accidents occur in the wee hours of the morning, there aren't specialists on duty, and the maritime ambulance donated by the state of Quintana Roo two years ago has never been put into operation.

This time it took place at the El Pescador Beach Club in Sac Bajo, where workers received medical check ups, vaccine updates, and medications which they need to do their jobs. The leader of the CROC labor union, Carlos Maldonado Euan, explained that this helps ensure quality services to hundreds of visitors who are served daily by these workers. There are about 20 companies on the island who are expected to be served by the IMSS staff.

New cold front expected this afternoon

Feb. 4.
Cold front  #35 was forecast to arrive on Thursday afternoon, bringing strong winds from the north, which will close the port again. The winds remained calm at 5pm, and the weather was good with warm temperatures. The port was open for small boats, and they took advantage of this, including fishermen, tour boats, and dive shop boats.
According to the CONAGUA (National Weather Commission) forecast, the weather is expected to improve on Saturday, and then on Tuesday, cold front #36 could arrive to the coasts of Quintana Roo. It is noted that there are only three weeks left before the ban on lobster fishing begins on March 1st, and the poor weather has affected the catches negatively.
