Eviction in the Federal Zone

Desalojan una Zona Federal

0 08 de octubre de 2015  By Carlos Gasca

Federal authorities intervened yesterday, when the Director General of the Ports was assisted by the Navy and the PGR (Attorney General's office) to evict Brisas Grill Restaurant, which had been operating under the management of Wbeimar Maldonado. Apparently, the dispute between the two parties was concluded two years ago, but it was not until yesterday when the General Director of Ports decided to claim ownership of the property, which is to be assigned to another individual, under a contract with APIQRoo (the state Port Authority), because this individual has defended their application for possession of the property. This is an area of just over 250 square meters which includes a restaurant, several adjoining premises, and a wooden pier, as well as the surface of the water nearby.

Following a recent visit by Martha Patricia Puc of the Human Rights Commission to the municipal jail, twenty prisoners signed a complaint, alleging that their Constitutional rights are not being respected. They say they have been mistreated, that their light weights for exercise were taken away, and they complained about the lights being turned off and not being given their coffee, sugar, foods, shampoo, and other things. They complained about a lack of medical services and that their request to have the jail sprayed for flies has been ignored for a month.

Eviction of "Brisas Grill" Restaurant
Desalojan el restaurante “Brisas Grill” Ver mas
There has been a long dispute between two parties over an area of 250 square meters in the Federal Zone, which includes the Brisas Grill restaurant, several adjoining premises and a wooden pier, which resulted in an eviction this (yesterday) afternoon by the General Director of the Merchant Marines, assisted by the PGR (Attorney General's office). The occupants of the stores were evicted, of this property owned by Sra Gloria del Pilar Rodriguez, including the main building.
It is alleged that she did not file documents in a timely manner with the SCT (Department of Communications and Transport) regarding documentation for SEMARNAT (Department of the Environment and Natural Resources), which has allowed the Marquez Martinez family to reclaim the Federal Zone concession. This happened in October 2005 when Hurricane Wilma damaged the property.
A reporter contacted Gloria del Pilar on Monday, who said she plans to try to recover the property, and is seeking legal counsel to initiate a fight to reverse this decision in her favor. There has been a complaint between the involved parties that apparently was concluded two years ago, but it was not until today (yesterday) with the General Director of the Ports decided to reclaim the property, which is under contract with the Port Authority, and another individual had filed and pursued  the application for possession of the property.

From Sally MargolisHi all!! We (Isla Animals) are gearing up for a HUGE Spay/Neuter, Vaccination, Wellness campaign for the animals in Rancho Viejo Nov 17-22. This is a very poor area in the municipality of Isla Mujeres. Most are living without electricity and running water. The situation for the animals there is dire right now with parvo & distemper running rampant, and heavy overpopulation. We expect to treat/vaccinate/spay/neuter 1000 cats & dogs with the cost of surgery at just $10us per dog. This may be the only time any of these animals see a vet. We can treat the existing animals, vaccinate others against disease, curb the population growth, and educate pet owners on proper animal care and make a HUGE DIFFERENCE!! We have the knowledge, experience, volunteers, and heart to make it happen. We are asking for all of your help to raise funds to make the campaign a reality. (We can also accept Paypal donations via our site - just add RANCHO VIEJO in message, and cash in person on Isla Mujeres. Please, please share the link on your social media. It helps us so much. If you are not in a position to donate PLEASE do read the campaign & share, there is lots of excellent info in it about the work we do-There is always so much to do! Thank you for your time!
