The Director of the Community Hospital warns islanders to say NO! to Navi-covi-fiestas, and has started a campaign with this message on social media. Dra Leily Osorio Mares advises the community to avoid all gatherings & get-togethers, asking them to do this for the elderly adults--Don't give them the gift of risking sickness. This Christmas, unfortunately many families will be incomplete, Let's not put our families at risk. Say NO to Navicovifiestas!

Tomorrow (Friday) at 6p on the FB page Cultura Isla Mujeres, there will be a conversation (in Spanish) titled "Culture, Identity and Development in Northern Quintana Roo". This is being done in conjunction with the municipalities of Benito Juarez and Lazaro Carrdenas, and will include Isla Mujeres historian Fidel Villanueva Madrid; the historian of Lázaro Cárdenas, José Moisés Gaspar Maglán Canul and the historian of el Cancún, Fernando Martí Brito. It will be moderated by journalist-writer Jorge González Durán.

The Mayor posted these photos of last night's lighting of the Christmas lights and wrote: Tonight we carry out the traditional lighting of the Christmas tree lights on the Town Square in front of the Palacio Municipal/Town Hall; this year will be different because we will prioritize taking care of the health of all island families but we could not let such special dates go unrecognized. We will keep joy alive but while taking care of each other.
Isla Mujeres participated in the 2nd edition of the Digital Pueblos Magico Tianguis 2020, San Luis Potosi Edition, scheduled for Dec. 9 & 10. There were more than 30 agencies on the first day and about 60 agencies will be served in the two days of the event. On the first day, Isla Mujeres attracted the attention and interest of various travel agencies, tour operators and buyers, with its offerings of attractions that are cultural, culinary, historic and religious, as well as all the activities that take place daily. More than 60 appointments were made with travel agencies, wholesale & retail, domestic and international.

LINK The Hospital Director advises avoiding the "Navi-covi-Fiestas" during these days, with the upcoming Christmas and New Year's holidays. The Community Hospital Director, Dra Levli Osorio Mares, made this request via social networks. She said that we are still not safe from contracting Covid-19 and we must not lower our guard, that is why care must be taken to avoid getting sick.
She explained that it is important to maintain epidemiological surveillance and avoid spreading the virus among the population of Isla Mujeres. Dra. Osorio Mares, pointed out through social networks that indeed it is time to celebrate and for that, we Islanders "pintamos solos" (lit. we paint alone--I think this means celebrating alone with your immediate household.) but she indicated that there will be time for that, but for now the Pandemic continues and the Coronavirus still continues to claim lives every day, therefore the "Navicovifiesta" campaign is undertaken.
She said that the virus is among us and that deaths continue to occur, so it is important to maintain preventive measures to avoid infections and try to return to the New Normal as soon as possible. "Realize that now we say, 'And you, have you gotten Covid yet?' " She said it is because this terrible virus continues to infect more and more people, it does not matter if it already infected them, the next time it will be more intense.
In this she mentioned that it is of the utmost importance to avoid all kinds of gatherings and get-togethers, since it is in this type of group that contagions are generated, which ultimately affect the most vulnerable, such as children and the elderly.
She reiterated that it is vitally important to avoid such meetings and gatherings, especially by older adults, who are at high risk of dying, if they are infected.

usual Patron Saint festivities from late November until her Día de la
Inmaculada Concepcion on December 8th are suspended, but the priest will
celebrate a Mass with a holy rosary each day for each of the groups and
organizations, according to a schedule.

Dec 13-14 Peaking of the Geminid meteor shower--This is one of the two
best showers of the year (the other is August Perseids). The sky will be
dark all night (new moon) & the largest numbers will be visible
around 2a (when the radiant point is highest in the sky). But you should
see them from mid evening until dawn, weather permitting. There should
be a 'smattering' of meters the nights before & after, and it builds
to a peak the week before. This shower features meteors that tend to be
bold, white and quick, with up to 50-150 per hour when peaking in
optimal conditions, like this year's moonless sky. On Dec. 11,12,13, the
slender lunar crescent and planet Venus will rise in the eastern sky at
or near dawn.
Posadas Navidenas Dec 16-24 will presumably be suspended along with the two decorated Caravans.
