Isla Mujeres continues to report a total of 234 cases of C-19 with 21 deaths and 197 recovered. The state geoportal for 12/26 continues to report 2 active cases by colonia, with one in Amp. La Gloria and the other in La Gloria. On the national map for 12/25, Isla Mujeres continues to report 175 suspicious and 137 negatives.

Various Crime Prevention Courses have been provided in Isla Mujeres
There have been 12 training sessions to promote public safety and crime prevention in various colonias on the island including “El Cañotal”, “La Gloria”, “Meteorológica”, “Salina Grande”, “Salina Chica” y “Caridad del Cobre”, as well as two colonias in the Continental Zone, for the benefit of 79 residents. To prevent crimes like extortion, phone fraud and petty theft, trained Crime Prevention personnel provided courses for employees of the Grand Palladium and Residences La Diosa covering topics such as road safety, types & elements of crime, accident prevention, risk prevention & safety measures, addiction & prevention in the workplace, empathy & a positive work environment, and assertive conflict resolution for a total of 33 courses for 446 people. In coordination with the National Guard, two courses on Road Safety and Accident Prevention were taught to 33 people of the military vehicles drivers course. Municipal police were given 14 training courses by the Crime Prevention unit addressing topics including Police Labor, Prevention of Gender and Domestic Violence, Human Rights, Attention to Violence, and Types & Elements of Crime among others.
When the schools were open, informational campaigns were provided to their students, and during the early months of the pandemic, checkpoints / health & safety filters were set up by the Enriqueta Camarillo kindergarten (on the eastern side of the island on Jesus Mtz Ross) and in front of Marma on Rueda Medina (on the western side of the island), as well as filters at four strategic points at the beaches of Playa Centro and North Beach.

While the December holiday this year have been different in the face of the health contingency caused by the coronavirus pandemic, thanks to the commitment of the municipal government measures will continue as long as it takes to preserve the health of island island families and visitors while promoting a gradual, orderly and responsible recovery of the local economy.
In the New Normality, the hotels, restaurants and beaches, as well as the various attractions of the Pueblo Magico, have maintained health protocols against C-19 to preserve the health of both residents and visitors. Although the state epidemiological light has significantly reduced the capacity of hotels in order to avoid agglomerations and possible rebounds of the disease, and hotel occupancy rates are not as high as normally expected at this time of year, they are at about 50 percent overall, which is expected to increase at the end of the year.
With a commitment to preserve peace and tranquility during this time, as well as to monitor compliance with the protocols, various units of the municipal government have conducted holiday security operations at various points in the municipality. A "Saldo Blanco" (no serious incidents) has been reported by staff of ZOFEMAT (Federal Zone agency), the National Guard, Civil Protection, and Fiscalizacion (Enforcement).

Public events have been suspended due to C-19. Holidays have featured online competitions and events.
The
usual Patron Saint festivities from late November until her Día de la
Inmaculada Concepcion on December 8th are suspended, but the priest will
celebrate a Mass with a holy rosary each day for each of the groups and
organizations, according to a schedule.

Sunday, Dec 13-14 Peaking of the Geminid meteor shower--This is one of the two best showers of the year (the other is August Perseids). The sky will be dark all night (new moon) & the largest numbers will be visible around 2a (when the radiant point is highest in the sky). But you should see them from mid evening until dawn, weather permitting. There should be a 'smattering' of meters the nights before & after, and it builds to a peak the week before. This shower features meteors that tend to be bold, white and quick, with up to 50-150 per hour when peaking in optimal conditions, like this year's moonless sky. On Dec. 11,12,13, the slender lunar crescent and planet Venus will rise in the eastern sky at or near dawn.
Posadas Navidenas Dec 16-24 will be suspended along with the decorated Caravans.
