Today Isla Mujeres reports another case of C-19 for a total of 236 with 21 deaths and 197 recovered. The growth rate for our Northern Zone has increased from 0.17 to 0.23. The state geoportal for 12/28 continues to report 2 active cases by colonia, with one in Amp. La Gloria and the other in La Gloria. On the national map for 12/27, Isla Mujeres reports 172 suspicious and 139 negatives.

On the national map for 12/26, Isla Mujeres reports 173 suspicious and 139 negatives.
Dra Xhanat Tze Mora posted a video she made at 3am, when she had the opportunity, because there are things she wants to say concerning the coronavirus pandemic & says "Please listen". (She's the municipal C-19 prevention liaison and has a medical practice on the island.) She said so many people are acting as tho coronavirus is over and they are partying and having normal holidays and they could not be more wrong. Covid is here and cases are increasing and those behaviors are driving the increase. The doctors are seeing more cases among young people, who need oxygen. She said it's hard to get oxygen for patients and there is a lack of medications. It is difficult for all the doctors and some have gotten sick. There are many people acting like things are normal or thinking they are safe because they are young, healthy, don't smoke and take vitamins. But there are no guarantees & then they get sick and need oxygen. She doesn't want to see more patients needing oxygen & to be up at 3am trying to obtain it for them. Because people are not taking this seriously. It's making her sad. The vaccine is coming and people need to take care meanwhile. There aren't enough medications. The municipal DIF continues to collect and provide fruit, yogurt and pastries to members of the community who have been most affected by coronavirus pandemic, thanks to the goodwill of the Chedraui company. The tables are open Monday thru Friday 9a-3p at the DIF facility.

Public events have been suspended due to C-19. Holidays have featured online competitions and events.
The
usual Patron Saint festivities from late November until her Día de la
Inmaculada Concepcion on December 8th are suspended, but the priest will
celebrate a Mass with a holy rosary each day for each of the groups and
organizations, according to a schedule.

Sunday, Dec 13-14 Peaking of the Geminid meteor shower--This is one of the two best showers of the year (the other is August Perseids). The sky will be dark all night (new moon) & the largest numbers will be visible around 2a (when the radiant point is highest in the sky). But you should see them from mid evening until dawn, weather permitting. There should be a 'smattering' of meters the nights before & after, and it builds to a peak the week before. This shower features meteors that tend to be bold, white and quick, with up to 50-150 per hour when peaking in optimal conditions, like this year's moonless sky. On Dec. 11,12,13, the slender lunar crescent and planet Venus will rise in the eastern sky at or near dawn.
Posadas Navidenas Dec 16-24 will be suspended along with the decorated Caravans.
