Juan Carrillo resumed his position as Mayor on Monday. LINK
Juan Carrillo Soberanis resumed his position as Mayor on Monday, after his period as an electoral candidate expired. In accordance with the law - to avoid any conflict of interest - Juan Carrillo applied for his license before the City Council to absent himself and represent the PRI during the electoral period that began on May 14 and ended on June 28, and agreed to the results of the day of July 1, when he was reelected. He said, "I thank Sebastián Escobedo Jiménez for his invaluable work and for keeping things working properly during my absence."
He also said that there is a lot of work to be done now, to meet the needs of the inhabitants of Isla Mujeres and said that in the next three years, all sectors will be served. He added, "On Monday we began to work fully with the City Council to finish with my responsibilities of this first period as municipal president, I am here to serve the islanders and to continue transforming Isla Mujeres, "
Outdated products found at Walmart and Aurrera stores in Cancun LINK
A fine of was imposed by COFEPRIS (Commission Against Sanitary Risks in Quintana Roo) against Bodega Aurrera and Walmart in Cancun for the sale of expired products in their bakery and sausage department, respectively, and those areas were closed until the problems are corrected. The fines are between 1000 and 4000 Daily Minimum Wages (The DMW is 80 pesos/~$4usd so that is $4000 to $16,000usd.)

Fire on the ferry
Isla Mujeres Al Dia shared a post from Novedades de Quintana Roo (SIPSE) which reported: A boat that covers the route between Isla Cancún and Puerto Juarez (sic) had a fire in an engine hose, so passengers asked for life jackets. (They are referring to one of the Ultrmar ferries, which can be seen in the photos and video. There are ferries between Isla Mujeres and the Cancun Hotel Zone and there are ferries between Puerto Juarez and Isla Mujeres, but not between Cancun and Puerto Juarez.)
However, according to reports from the passengers, the staff did not know how to respond to the emergency, and they did not even know where to find the vests.
In addition, as evidenced by a video, (allegedly) the life jackets were not under the seats of the boat, as indicated on the signs. (The video shows passengers on the upper level, and down the stairway a cloud of smoke can be seen on the first level.) Despite the incident, the Harbor Master's Office reported that the vessel arrived at port without problems. LINK VIDEO
The new director of the municipal department of Fiscalización y Cobranza will be Gibrán Emmanuel Mex Pinzón, (I usually translate this department as "Enforcement", since they are generally in the news when they are temporarily closing and fining businesses whose documents are not in order regarding payment of the licenses and fees.)
Mr. Mex Pinzón, who served as director of the Municipal Youth Institute, replaces Ramiro Osorio.

Within ten minutes walk are a variety of restaurants including Mango Cafe, Brisas, Manolitos, La Chatita, Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, and the large department store-grocery , Chedraui. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Attend Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants. It takes 20-30 minutes to walk downtown.

Voters are also choosing nine governors, ~1600 mayors, and thousands of state and local lawmakers.
