From the Municipal Facebook site.....  (  FB page link)

We are working on the implementation of programs to eradicate bullying in Isla Mujeres schools. Help us to reinforce these actions with your children at home. LINK
For the benefit of the children of Isla Mujeres, the Municipal System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) began the implementation of a certification program against bullying in schools throughout the municipality, in coordination with the organization Fundación en Movimiento.
The honorary president of the DIF, Mrs. Paola Orrico de Carrillo, said, "Bullying is a real problem that affects children and young people both in their schools and in their homes, so we implemented these certifications that surely will be of great benefit to all the children of Isla Mujeres."
This certification includes an intensive workshop for teachers, in which they are taught to identify bullying problems within their classrooms and to find ways to combat it by using different techniques.
This program began its implementation at CENDI child development center and at a prechool-kindergarten, both in the Continental Zone of the municpality, where the young children enjoyed a presentation of  “Hipo hip a la escuela no quería ir” (Hippo, I didn't want to go to school).

New legal battle for cooperative
Nueva lucha legal de cooperativa [+] Ver masFull article at this link
After five years of litigation and with a decision by a Federal judge, the fishing cooperative "Isla Blanca", has managed to preserve the Federal Zone and an additional area of land which they have occupied for two decades. They have been in a legal battle with an business group since the former Director of APIQRoo (State Port Administration authority), Ercé Barrón, granted a contract to the entrepreneurial group.
Now the Board of Directors of the Cooperative expects the support of Alicia Ricalde, current Director of APIQRoo, to revoke that contract, based on this decision by the federal judge. The contract had involved the partial transfer of rights API-OIM-REG-70-24-09,  in favor of Mr. Pablo Aguirre González, José Luis Ballesteros Gutiérrez, Manuel Bernardo Aguirre González, Consuelo González Arias, Katya Martínez Hinsen, Ana María Ballesteros Gutiérrez, Daniel Figueroa Tentori and María Dolores Aguirre González.
The Isla Blanca Cooperative Board of Directors, composed of Raúl González Cámara, Gabriel Rosel Castro and Martín Puc Pech, president, secretary and treasurer, respectively, announced their thanks in advance to the current Director of APIQRoo, for the cancellation request of this contract, because it occurred in full litigation, which implies irregularity by Ercé Barrón. The cooperative has finally won that lawsuit in court because they have held this  concession of the Federal Zone and an additional area from SEMARNAT, granted when they occupied said property in 2011.
After nearly eight years of struggle for the regularization of its port facility, the fishing Cooperative 'Isla Blanca' is again involved in a new trial brought by María Dolores Aguirre González. The members of the cooperative's Board of Directors explained that this is due to the fact that in January 2010, during the administration of Javier Félix Zetina González, Director of APIQRoo, a contract of partial transfer of rights was executed for the property that the cooperative built, occupies and uses.
Said contract, they added, had a validity of five years and eight months, a period that expired after the judgment of the Federal Court was issued stating that there was no overlap of the federal area concessioned to the cooperative with the Port Precinct, however, "despite that, during Ercé's direction, the contract API-OIM-REG-70-24-09 was extended and ordered to be registered with the General Directorate of Ports, leaving the Cooperative without any possibility of obtaining and regularizing their port area. "
But with the support of Ms. Ricalde Magaña, when requesting the revocation of this contract, it is expected that there will be a favorable resolution to the demands of the fishermen. The Cooperative hopes that she will confirm the request for revocation of the contract in the answer that must be made to the claim, as a third party interested in the nullity proceedings 6804 / 17-17-06-6, filed in the Sixth Metropolitan Chamber of the Federal Court of Administrative Justice.
The fishermen explained that in said file, APIQRoo has the status of an interested third party, and their reply has not yet been finalized or agreed, however, Ms. Ricalde Magaña is committed to supporting the Cooperative who undertook to regularize the situation. The Cooperative Board members said they are complying with each and every one of the requirements demanded by the Law for the direct awarding of the pier and additional area. However, during this time, the pier has fallen into a state of advanced deterioration, and they have been unable to invest any federal resources or their own resources, during this legal conflict, which has caused severe economic damage to the cooperative.

Jan. 12.  After the port was open for general navigation for three days, it is expected that on Friday afternoon the port will be closed for navigation by small boats, due to effects from the arrival of the first of two northern fronts. Cold front number 22 is expected to bring strong winds with gusts exceeding 60 kilometers per hour for the Yucatan Channel, according to the National Water Commission (Conagua)  forecast at 1:00 pm on Friday.
Restrictions on boats under 40 feet could continue this next week, since another cold front is expected to arrive on Tuesday. At 2:00 p.m. this Friday, the first "norte" winds were felt on Playa Norte, which suffers most from this wind, unlike Playa Centro, which becomes an alternative for beach-goers and swimmers.
People are advised to take precautions against the sudden drop in temperatures, especially for the elderly and very young, who are the most vulnerable.

Saturday, Jan. 6 Día de Reyes/ King's Day   This day commemorates when the three kings or Magi visited Jesus & is the culmination of the twelve days of Christmas. Traditionally this is the day when Mexican children receive gifts (which are brought by the three kings as opposed to Santa). It is customary to eat Rosca de reyes, a sweet bread that represents King Herod's crown with figurines of baby Jesus hidden inside. Whoever finds the token in their piece is obligated to host a party on Candlemas Day (Dia de la Candelaria), Feb. 2, which usually includes tamales.

Festival for King's Day (Jan. 6) at the el Pescador baseball field in front of Chedruai on Saturday starting at 5p. More than 6000 people are expected to attend to enjoy the entertainment, surprises, and presents.

Jan. 6 is Día de la Enfermera. This special day was established in 1931, when Dr. Jose Villagrana said nurses were like a "regalo de reyes"...a gift from the Magi.  (International Nurse's Day is celebrated on May 12th, the birthday of Florence Nightingale).
