Reducing harassment of arriving tourists by comisionistas
Intentan poner orden entre comisionistas
Para frenar el acoso constante a visitantes nacionales y extranjeros

ISLA MUJERES, 13 de noviembre.-
The Municipal Tourism Department has begun a process to control the harassment of arriving visitors by tourism promoters known as comisionistas, who are now also joined by various taxi driver.
Tourists are being harassed inside and outside of the Maritime Terminal, and even on the dock of the Port Authority (API) by vendors of services including golf cart rentals, boat tours, and hotels. The Department of Tourism also intends to clear this area to prevent tourists from being approached by so many people, beginning with removing the taxi drivers, who in addition to offering tours of the island, are gaining commission to rent golf carts and boat tours or from various hotels or restaurants.
However, the comisionistas say that these measures won't help maintain order very much because currently the employees of Ultramar are selling these services inside the ferries during the crossings and at the pier the moment the visitors arrive. In addition, there are members of various tourist cooperatives, workers from Dolphin Discovery, and is some cases employees from the Municipal Tourism Department and workers of the Maritime Terminal.
There is also a new information booth by the former employees of the "Isla Mujeres" Tourism Cooperative, located in front of the PRI building.

CRIM is working in coordination with the various schools in the municipality to ensure that children receive diagnostic and therapeutic attention in a timely manner, with the help of auxiliary professionals in the fields of psychology, and therapists. They are coordinating with the various educational campuses, where they hold workshops and lectures to raise awareness among teachers to recognize and assist children who have any sort of disability, and to direct their parents toward options, including CRIM. During these workshops, personnel specializing in psychology assist with children who have disabilities in learning, movement, hearing, language, or speech, so that they may receive treatment in a timely manner, and in this way they may live fuller lives.
The CRIM personnel also conduct seminars for the prevention of bullying, prevention of addictions, and suicide prevention, as well as about the need to identify emotions so the students can learn to communicate and relate in a positive manner.
These seminars are being held in the schools of Julio Sauri Espinoza, Jean Piaget, Andres Quintana Roo, and Gabriela Mistral.

Shipyard closed where fire occurred inside a boat
Clausuran astillero donde se suscitó el conato de incendio en Isla Mujeres - http://www.tvislamujeres.com.mx/clausuran-astillero-donde-…/
The Director of the municipal Department of Civil Protection, Ulises Bernan Graniel, said they placed closure seals on the shipyard where a fire occurred recently, because of a lack of safety protocols. He said, "They did not activate the safety measures that the marina should have in their shipyard; they did not contact the auxiliary brigades, nor the Civil Protection brigades, which are in their emergency plan."
He said on Thursday, there were welders working inside the Ultramar boat "Mixcoatl". The heat from the flames of their tools caused the life jackets to begin burning, and when they realized what had happened, it was impossible to put out the fire with their own extinguishers.
The Director said the closure took place due to the lack of safety protocols at the shipyard, which should be a priority, especially considering there are two gas pumps next to the facility. He said the shipyard must have a contingency plan with Civil Protection, but that does not seem to exist. He said, "They have their own plan, but it was not complied with, nor activated, and for this reason they are now closed."
Regarding the issue of the permits which the marina operates under, the official said that all of those will be reviewed, since the business did not follow the proper emergency safety protocols.
On Saturday when they came to close the facility and place the seals, some people did not want to leave, and assistance was sought from the Department of Public Security (municipal police).
It is noted that this is not the first fire that has occurred at this shipyard. Some years ago, there was another boat fire, but the facilities were not closed down, then.

Shipyard closed at Puerto de Abrigo marina
Clausuran el astillero de Puerto de Abrigo [+] Ver masFull article at this link
.- After a recent fire at the shipyard of the marina Puerto Isla Mujeres, the municipal Department of Civil Protection carried out a closure procedure on Sunday for failure to comply with regulations, said Ulises Berman Graniel, head of the Department.
He explained that this establishment was given notification of two fines and of closure for the following reasons: Not having an internal civil protection plan in force in accordance with the provisions of the municipal program; and Not having visible safety equipment in place. They also do not have the appropriate emergency signage and instructions.
A fire occurred at this business (a few days ago), and therefore, "Due to not following the requirements, the establishment has been temporarily closed as a safety measure." The notification was carried out in accordance with the provisions of the State Civil Protection Law in relation to the Civil Protection Regulation of the municipality, at 12:12pm, when the official and his team went to the shipyard located in Puerto de Abrigo, Laguna Macax, lot 9, colony Electricians, Isla Mujeres, 77400 The amount of the fine was not specified, but it is estimated that it may be considerable due to the magnitude of the presumed irresponsibility that occurred recently and put the lives at risk of many workers in the shipyard, by not complying with safety systems that are established by law.
After this measure was taken, it is assumed that more businesses will be required to comply, who lack safety systems for the protection of human lives in the event of an accident. Owners of tourist properties are urged to comply with regulations to avoid risks and fines.

Tourists allege they were served adulterated tequila
Turistas denuncian haber tomado tequila adulterado [+] Ver masFull article at this link
On Sunday, two tourists from the United States, Jennifer and Melinda, went to the police station to report that their money was stolen at a downtown bar, after they drank tequila which they allege was adulterated, causing one of them to lose consciousness/awareness. (el conocimiento). They were assisted at the police station by Angel, from the municipal Tourism Department, to help translate and gather information from them.
They say this occurred on Thursday night when they decided to try an invitation they received from a bar to drink tequila, but they say it appears that they were both served adulterated drinks. Jennifer said the next day she had an allergy, and she showed the reporter blood spots under her lower eyelids.
A resident who spoke with the women and made the first translation said it was unclear if the accused business is located on Madero Avenue or on Hidalgo Avenue, and it will be up to the authorities to investigate that.
