ISLA MUJERES, 5 de septiembre.-
After nearly a week of inactivity due to the weather, the whale shark tours resumed. The season ends Thursday, September 15. The port was closed for small boats on August 30, which continued for nearly a week, and also affected the tours to Isla Contoy. The small boats who offer tours to El Farito, in the Bay, were inactive for two days. The restrictions were imposed by the Harbor Master, due to the weather, for the safety of the tourists and boats.

The president of the Association of Small Hotels Fascinantes of IM (APHFIM), Leonel Castillo Povedano, said the hoteliers have been advised by executives of Telmex (Telefonos de Mexico) that the installation of a microwave antenna will improve capacity from 10mgs to 40 'megas'. Telmex said their strategy will improve internet speed so the problem of failure to meet the demands of hotel guests in recent seasons will be resolved.
The installation of the microwave antenna began recently and has already begun to improve the signal to the hotels. It was announced that the speeds will be close to those of an fiber optical system, whose installation remains in a pending status. It is likely that in 2017 there could be an announcement to introduce a fiber optic network on the island.

The 9th annual Diabetes Clinic is November 3 in La Gloria. We are a team of nurses, social workers, EMT's and paramedics with a doctor for consultation of patients who need to be seen immediately. Please consider donating $50 which would buy 200 test strips, enough for one patient for a year. We also need donations of reading glasses, particularly the higher numbers. Many diabetics have vision problems too. We have a drop off location at Marina Paraiso Hotel or will pick up wherever you are!
