Although it was reported that a usual number of tourists arrived on Saturday, the two main beaches of the island were not full. There were no problems with the swimmers on North Beach or Playa Centro. Representatives of the Tourism Office, Civil Protection, and the Harbor Master agreed it was a quiet day without incidents.
There were the usual nautical and recreational activities, including diving, and 200 tourists visited Isla Contoy. The commercial fishermen were catching lobster and fish. There were about 50 medium sized boats moving tourists from the mainland, including the docks and marinas of the Hotel Zone of Cancun, and from Puerto Juarez and Punta Sam between 8am and 6pm, while the ferries carried an medium amount of passengers. Tourists enjoyed touring the island in golf carts visiting Punta Sur, Tortugranja, Sac Bajo, and the Mundaca Hacienda.

A truck for the regional chain store, Telebodega, was making a delivery and broke a TV cable, leaving some customers without service in colonia La Gloria. The incident occurred before dusk on Friday, at the street Pampano, in front of the Fovisste housing. Several cables were pulled down, affecting service to a dozen homes in the area.  A call was made to have the company, Izzi, repair the problem on Saturday.
Good weather and warm temperatures are expected for Sunday, with a possibility of clouds and light rain. Small boat owners are advised to be cautious.

Controversy over land donated to City on mainland

Alderman Victor Osorio (PRD) voted against a City Council decision on September 20 to accept a donation of two hectares of land on Isla Blanca, in the mainland part of the municipality. He said the land has a commercial value of 30 to 40 million pesos, with property taxes and federal zone property taxes of about 5 million pesos annually. It is located between the waters of the Chacmuchuch lagoon to the west and the Caribbean Sea to the east.  The agreement was made in lieu of a payment of a debt of 11,585,517 pesos, in exchange for the property, which has an area of 18,241 square meters. It is located in the coastal area of the municipality of Isla Mujeres on the mainland, in the area known as Sector 5: Santa Fátima/Francisco Javier.

The 9th annual Diabetes Clinic will be November 3rd in La Gloria. We are a team of nurses, social workers, EMT's and paramedics with a doctor for consultation of patients who need to be seen immediately. Please consider donating $50 which would buy 200 test strips, enough for one patient for a year. We also need donations of reading glasses, particularly the higher numbers. Many diabetics have vision problems too. We have a drop off location at Marina Paraiso Hotel or will pick up wherever you are!
