Business organizations unhappy about construction near runway
La obra podría frenar el rescate de la aeropista. [+] Ver masPhoto & full article at this link
This is similar information to the article translated yesterday, noting that some leaders and former leaders of the business associations CANIRAC, CANACO, and the Small Hotels Fascinantes of IM are also opposed to the private construction near the runway, because they also back a proposal to extend the runway another 300 meters, to a total of 1500 meters, allowing it to accommodate planes of 50 passengers. This proposal includes renovating the terminal and adding immigration and customs offices.
However, when the federal government did a study a number of years ago, they determined there were too many homes near the airfield to expand or develop it. The Civil Aviation agency said the airfield cannot meet international safety standards because of the houses nearby, and more homes have been built in the area since then. This information was included in yesterday's article.
A former leader of CANACO, Javier Ortiz, said ten years ago their organization requested permission to build on a lot 300 meters from the current construction, and were denied. Baltazar Maldonado, president of CANIRAC, said the construction should be stopped because he says there is a requirement by the Director General of Civil Aviation against construction in the vicinity of the runway.

The article notes there is a tropical wave near the Lesser Antilles that is being monitored. Navigation was restricted on Sunday for small boats, but they were allowed to be active in the Bay. There were many people on the two main beaches and many golf carts were rented with visitors sightseeing around the island.

Please consider donating $50 which would buy 200 test strips, enough for one patient for a year. We also need donations of reading glasses, particularly the higher numbers. Many diabetics have vision problems too. We have a drop off location at Marina Paraiso Hotel or will pick up wherever you are!
