The ISSSTE has medication available for conjunctivitis  LINK
Cora Amalia Castilla Madrid, representative of the Institute of Social Security and Social Services of State Workers (ISSSTE) in Quintana Roo, siad they have sufficient supply of medicines to treat cases of conjunctivitis that occur in the island population. Extra medications have been requested to treat the two types of conjunctivitis that have been reported in the state (viral and bacterial) and the doctors are attending all beneficiaries who exhibit symptoms of conjunctivitis.
She said,  "We have guaranteed the supply of medicines and medical care, but with this issue of conjunctivitis, preventative measures are key, so we are promoting preventive actions in our family units and in our clinics, where we are providing information to the population on measures to prevent contagion."
She said it is very important to wash hands frequently, and/or use antiseptic gel; to clean surfaces and objects such as cell phones, glasses and pens; to avoid physical contact when greeting; to go to the doctor when symptoms appear, including irritation, redness or swelling in your eyes, the appearance of yellow discharge and fever and,  it is very important to avoid self-medication.
"We have sufficient medications, but like in many other aspects of our health, the best medicine is prevention, so we reiterate to our beneficiaries and the general public that it is very important to follow preventive measures at home, in the work, schools and public spaces," said Cora Amalia.

Dead turtle found on Sac Bajo beach
Hallan tortuga muerta en una playa de Sac-bajo.. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Another turtle, which came ashore to lay eggs on a beach in Sac Bajo, was killed by people who inteneded to sell its meant, according to an Environmental official. This is the second (sic third) turtle that was found dead during this nesting season, killed by people who want to market the meat and eggs. The animal died from a blow to the head, fracturing its skull, and the person who inflicted the injury fled. Municipal officials reported that they will continue investigating in order to find whoever is responsible.
The animal was a Green turtle weighing over 100 kilograms, and was buried in the sandy area where the event occurred, by personnel with PROFEPA ( Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection). The first event occured when three people killed a turtle on the beach near the former office of the Cable company, and the responsible people haven't been located. (The second was at a beach near Bachilleres high school).
Some say the predators have not been found because there is a demand that still exists in a minor sector among the native population, since traditionally they consumed turtles decades ago.      There are some fishermen who have requested permission for some time to capture and market their meat in recent years, due to the good recovery of their population as a result of the ban, "since we see several turtles at sea every day." Among those who promoted this proposal was the late Ariel Maga帽a "Picho" Carrillo, former municipal president, who spoke openly about the issue. No federal courts agreed with this proposal.

Trash collection problems
Problemas con la recoja de basura [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Following the successful cleaning of the Trash Transfer Facility which was completed last week, a new problem has arisen since three of the four trash collection vehicles have broken down since last weekend. It is said that there is a lack of financial resources to prevent these mechanical problems in a timely manner. One official said, "These vehicles have already gone beyond their usual life, and it is urgent that they be replaced."
When these breakdowns occur, collection service is interrupted, and the authorities usually hire vehicles to deal with this problem, since the administration of Juan Carrillo Soberanis is commited to keeping the island clean, which was reinterated in his recent First Informe annual report.

Whale shark tour season concluded without incident
Avistamiento y nado con el tibur贸n ballena sin incidencias [+] Ver masFull article at this link

The whale shark tour season concluded on Sunday, Sept. 17, without any incidents, according to Harbor Master Ismael Gonzalez Gil. Regarding the project to place buoys to protect the ~400 whale sharks who visit in the spring-summer to feed on plankton in this area of the Yucatan Channel, is would be the responsibility of CONANP to manage it.
Currently, the Mexican Caribbean Biosphere Reserve, established in April 2016, must make the request, through the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (CONANP), so that the thousands of cargo ships and cruise ships that cross the waters of the Yucat谩n Channel would have to avoid passing through this area wher the whale sharks feed.
There is data from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) of several whale sharks who exhibit evidence on their backs and fins of boat strikes and even cuts from propellers. At the recent whale shark festivals, this type of research has not been presented to justify that request to install buoys to protect the feeding area.
An expert on the subject explained that the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT) would need to be in communication with SEMARNAT to discuss the issue with the Department of the Navy, before presenting the plan to the President of Mexico, and then it would be presented to international organizations, prior to any announcment about the installation of these buoys in upcoming years.
On Tuesday, the traditional Mass of gratitude was held near the whale shark monument and attended by dozens of families of the whale shark tour operators. There were no incidents during the nearly 90 days when tens of thousands of tourists were transported to the whale shark feeding area, according to the Harbor Master.
It is noted that the Mexican Caribbean Biosphere Reserve includes an area of 5,662, 859.1 hectares, of which only 116,783.8 hectares are in the coastal mangrove area. This part of the Biosphere Reserve that is on land is mainly found in the municipalities of Benito Ju谩rez (including Puerto Morelos), Isla Mujeres, L谩zaro C谩rdenas and Tulum. There are many mangrove systems throughout this northern region that are vital to the sealife.
