The Mayor spoke to the students about his administration's commitment to quality education, academic excellence and an environment conducive to comprehensive training. He encouraged the young people to continue studying and to work for a better future for themselves, their families, and their community. He said, "Be happy doing what you like, don't stop studying and become the best in whatever area you want to pursue. We want you to be champions in everything you do."
Jorge Antonio Martínez Peña, director of the high school, thanked the Mayor of Isla Mujeres for all the support they have received since the beginning of his administration, which has included the repair of the perimeter fence and the painting of the school, as well as the donation of a projector for the audiovisual classroom, which has been of enormous benefit to the high school students.

The Director of Public Services, José Guadalupe Ríos Chalé, announced that they are a few days from the deadline for completely cleaning out the Trash Transfer Facility, and they have removed 75 percent of the accumulated trash to the landfill in the Continental Zone. The deadline to have the facility completely cleaned out is September 15th and only 25 percent of the trash remains.
The accumulated trash of about 2000 tons was left by the previous administrations, and the amount increased during summer vacation.
The Director said, "We are making more than 14 trips daily to the landfill in the Continental Zone, with an average of 250 tons per day."  This is the second time that an attempt has been made by the present administration to clean out the Transfer Center, but the first attempt wasn't successful because the equipment was deteriorated, which caused a larger accumulation of garbage. He said their work is nearly finished.
It is noted that this official had already managed to entirely clean out the Trash Transfer Facility during the administration of Alicia Ricalde Magaña and is now repeating this work. For the remaining work, Mr.Ríos Chalé asks for the understanding of the islanders, since the extraction of the garbage is causing nauseous smells.

The boat procession to Isla Contoy could be rescheduled  LINK
Although Hurricane Irma doesn't represent an imminent danger for Quintana Roo, it is not ruled out that rain and gusty winds could occur because of its proximity. The organizing committee for the Boat Procession to Isla Contoy in honor of Our Lady of Charity of Cobre is considering the possibility of rescheduling the date because of the threat of rains caused by Hurricane Irma.
Year after year, the maritime procession to Isla Contoy has become a traditional event promoted by the fishermen and supported by the City of Isla Mujeres.
Baltazar Gómez Catzin, alderman for the fishing industry in Isla Mujeres, explained that the event is still in progress, but there is a 70 percent chance that it will be suspended and rescheduled. He said that about 800 people are expected to attend this event, and they cannot be put at risk because of the weather.  He explained that the weather conditions are being analyzed and they are considering rescheduling the event for September 9th, but the final decision will be up to the Harbor Master.

Two more cases of decompression
Reportan dos descompresionados. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Sept. 6 .- This morning, two fishermen from Holbox received treatment in the hyperbaric chamber, who were injured while diving in deep waters to catch lobster, said Rosember Dzul Ochoa, one of the operators of the capsule. This brings the total to 16 cases of decompression, after a little more than two months since the lobster catching season began on July 1st. With (more than) five more months left of the season, (which ends Feb. 28) there are concerns that the total could exceed 40 fishermen.
The most recent fisherman to receive treatment was Juan Farfán Domínguez, 46, who did a 25-meter dive and spent 45 minutes on the seabed, about 30 miles from Isla Mujeres. His symptoms included dizziness and numbness in his right leg, with tingling in both hands. He was submitted to a table 5 of "Us Navy", with 2 hours 15 minutes inside the capsule yesterday and today receives his second attention.            Of the 16 cases so far this season, 14 were mild cases and two were stage two with joint pains, but after the treatment sessions in the capsule, they were fully recovered.
The hyperbaric chamber currently lacks an electric generator, which would provide uninterrupted service in the event of interruptions in electrical service while a fisherman was being treated. Since the General Hospital was closed, the equipment that was to provide electricity in emergency ended its useful life last year, and now another is needed, but there is not enough money to acquire it.

In support of the education of young islanders, Mayor Juan Carrillo Soberanis, delivered 60 electronic tablets to the same number of fifth-year students of the Colegio de Bachilleres (Cobach) Isla Mujeres high school as part of the School Digitization program. Mayor Juan Carrillo expressed his willingness to attend to social demands in educational matters as much as possible, as well as participating in efforts to bring federal and state programs to the municipality. Pending projects on the island include rehabilitation of the dome and the breakfast area of "Julio Sauri" primary school, which has two shifts.

In the wake of Hurricane Irma in the Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico, government officials, at their three levels, urge the inhabitants of the island to be prepared for the eventuality of a hurricane in this region, to lessen the effects.
Residents are advised to strengthen their homes, their windows, doors; remove all objects from their roofs that could become projectiles; and to prune their trees. Fishermen should have chosen their places to protect their smaller boats. Residents should fill their cupboards with non-perishable, canned foods, which do not need refrigeration, and their gas tanks should be filled and well protected.
The effects of Irma could cause some rain on Sunday and Monday, and Jose is being monitored, which is expected to take a similar path as Irma.
