Each of these projects cost about 2 million pesos, and most of the funds came from the federal program Rama 23.

the municipal pageant "Abuelita y Abuelito Isla Mujeres 2015", the Grandma & Grandpa contest, organized
by the DIF, social service agency.
It was a spectacular evening when the municipal pageant was held on Wednesday at the green dome in Salina Chica. Gustavo Rodriguez Orozco and Norma Figuero Paz, who won first place, will represent the municipality in the state pageant, which will be held in Cozumel.
The event was hosted by Sra. Marthy Vargas León de Magaña, president of the DIF, who was accompanied by her spouse, mayor Agapito Magaña Sánchez, and legislator Juan Carrillo Soberanis. The eight contestants, four grandmothers and four grandfathers, gave their all to the competition. There were three aspects to the contest: casual wear, formal wear, and a talent show.
The emotional evening was full of surprises including a presentation by the Senior Citizen Dance troupe, Ballet del Adulto Mayor, as well a presentation by special guests, la Danza de los Viejitos (The Dance of the Elders), from the church Sagrado Corazón de Jesús.

The municipal public works director, Miguel Ariel Caballero Garcia, said in addition to the domes recently inaugurated by mayor Agapito Magaña Sanchez, the inauguration of the new fire station is planned, where nearly five million pesos was invested, from the fund Rama 23 which is managed Governor Roberto Borge Angulo, through the State Treasury Department.
ThePublic Works Director said they are now working to address some deficiencies in the bathrooms of the soccer field and softball field, as well as installing tiered roofs, painting and repairing wire mesh with a budget of two million pesos.
The official said that in addition to this, next year they are planning to install more lights in the walkway around Salina Grande lake, seeking to reach a total of forty lights, of which seventeen have already been installed. They are also planning to rehabilitate the "andador de la isla" (island walkway), as well as installing new trash cans.
They have plans to construct a new police casita module, and are planning to consider the installation of speed bumps and crosswalks at locations where residents have requested them.

In a brief telephone interview, during the "XI National Clean Beaches Meeting" in Cancun, the municipal director of tourism said it is possible that money could be allocated to repair the deteriorated 'geotubes' on North Beach, before the arrival of the the northerly winds. The official, Gustavo Rodriguez Orozco offered to discuss the possibility with the Mayor.
A large sandbar has been regained in recent months by the southern winds, but annually, with the arrival of the northern winds, the sand is lost again. The official admitted this expense was not considered when resources were allocated in the Annual Operating Plan of 2015 (POA). However, in the interest of conserving North Beach and the Posada del Mar beach in the excellent condition that caused them to receive the Blue and White Flag distinctions by meeting global standards of quality, this special investment for maintenance may be considered.
At least five of the deflated "whales" need attention. This issue has been reported by the media in recent times, with little response from officials, but with the return of a great deal of sand and the recent worldwide recognition for having clean beaches, this attitude might be reconsidered.

There is less trash on the side where there are houses, but witnesses say some residents often throw their household waste into the lagoon, including old furniture, which is an old habit that has not been broken despite countless cleanups over the decades, since odors occur when the water level drops and the garbage decomposes.
It is obvious that the lake is contaminated, like the other two lakes, because it receives rainwater that directly drains off the streets, and does not receive and funds to improve its appearance like Salina Grande lake, which has had a walking path for recreational use by the public for two decades.
Some residents, such as Juan Alcaraz Mendoza, say it would be prudent for municipal authorities to present an architectural plan to create something similar as the walkway at Salina Grande. He said, "When more recreational space is created, it is better for local people and for tourists."
Resident Sra. Isabel Juarez alleged that occupation of more land is being done by stealthily filling in some sections of the banks along these lakes, which she says involves political corruption, but she declined to name names.
Educational scholarships for special students

The scholarship program has been expanded to include special students and facilitate continuation of their education, at all levels, in an effort to address the need for these students to prepare, said the Director of the scholarship program, Edgar Gasca Arceo.
In this school year that is concluding, there have been 586 scholarships, including those for special students, and during preparations for the next school year, it is expected that students with difficult economic situations will again receive assistance. .
Of the 568 scholarships for students at basic, intermediated, and advanced levels, 466 were academic scholarships and 102 were for maritime transport (ferry costs). The bimonthly municipal investment in this program has been ~450,000 pesos. Sr. Gasca, said they still need to pay for two of the two month periods (March-April and May-June), which are expected to be delivered in early August. The next registration period will begin in October, and will require updated documents.
There are 30 students who have not collected their scholarships from January-February, and the deadline for collection is July 1st. They can apply during business hours at the office of Social Development. The scholarships will be cancelled if not given out by the deadline, and the money will be returned to the municipal treasury.Those families in need with eligible children are encouraged to register to receive this money
