Due to the lack of a permanent or constant presence of a Custom's office in Isla Mujeres, there have been complaints by foreigners who arrive via boats who sometimes have to wait hours or sometimes even days. An American, who travels around the world, complained today after waiting several hours, even though confirmation had been made by phone with Customs. Witnesses said they have seen foreigners waiting for hours, and the Customs agents must often be called by phone to come to the island, although the office should provide service to foreigners on weekdays. Witnesses explained that owners of boats entering Mexico are required to process their Temporary Import Permit, which allows them to have their boat in Mexican waters and to navigate without problems.

 Given the severe injuries that dozens of whale sharks have suffered, the National Commission of Natural Protected Areas ( Conanp ) requested that the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (SCT ) designate an exclusion zone for the transit of large ships in the area where the world's largest fish are watched. This was confirmed by the former director of the Whale Shark Biosphere Reserve, Francisco Remolina Suárez, who said that this measure seeks to prevent more accidents among the community of whale sharks swimming in the area .
      Due to  the situation is caused by the passage of cruise ships and cargo ships in the area where this species emerges, (several miles north-northeast of Isla Contoy National Park), soon the Merchant Marine Department, under the SCT ,  should make an international announcement concerning changing the route of these vessels crossing the Yucatan Channel, since presumably there have been several deaths of this species.
       According to the workers in this sector , it is common to see animals of this species killed or injured every year or every season.

As a result of excavation work in the area occupied by the Mundaca Hacienda, at least five chultunes or cisterns have been found, which Maya often built underground to store food and water, according to information leaked by City staff. Each chultun has an average depth of about 2.5 meters, with a small opening of 60-70 centimeters. The structures were found a few meters from the west side of Marcario Diaz's home, which is located about 200 meters from the entrance of the Mundaca Hacienda.
  Additionally it is thought that there may be a buried structure under the mound where the spider monkey cage was located, according to an anonymous expert. The INAH (National Institute of Anthropology and History) is expected to make a detailed report soon on the findings within the grounds of the hacienda of the ex-pirate.
  It is also noted that there are plans for the federal government to rescue the Hispanic church complex "Boca Iglesia", located within a perimeter of about 30 hectares of private land.    According to the expert, in the mainland area of the municipality of Isla Mujeres, there are more unexplored sites with archeological remains, and there may be a row of sites from Ranch Viejo to Francisco May, which connected with El Meco, which was a regional port for trade in the Caribbean waters.

Mayor Agapito Magana Sanches congratulated Profesor Lisbeth Araceli Cervera Gio for her 25 years of service. As a prelude to the celebration of the Teacher's Day, the Mayor visited the Benito Juarez Middle School. On May 15th a civic ceremony will be held in colonia la Gloria at 9am to honor teachers, and the City is planning to host a dinner in upcoming days to honor the staff of schools on the island and in the Continental Zone. Awards will be given to teachers who have given 25, 30, or 40 years of service, and there will be a raffle for an automobile, which will be conducted by the Teacher's Union Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (SNTE).

City workers removed benches, lamps, and kiosks from the Eastern Malecon downtown, because their usefulness was over due to rust, but they "forgot" to cover the holes left behind. Sandra Tuyub Moo, who lives nearby on Carlos Lazo Avenue, said she likes to bring her kids there to play, where there are fresh breezes. She complained to the reporter about the holes, and said that the light at night is not good, and she is worried that her children could fall in a hole. The reporter visited the location, which is two blocks from City Hall, and verified that there are uncovered areas where structures were removed.

Business owners are complaining about the practice of leading tourists to certain stores, which is employed by some boats who bring tourists to the island. There was a promise made by officials to stop this old practice, and store owners want the Director of Tourism to intervene. First State Congress of Young Environmentalists

The municipal Department of Ecology is organizing the First State Congress of Young Environmentalist which will take place in Isla Mujeres on June 4th & 5th. Many issues will be addressed at this conference and each delegation will present a paper on an environmental problem of the municipality, and proposals will be made for monitoring and solving the problem. There are also plans to hold a parade with an environmental theme. Issues to be considered include the contamination of lakes and lagoons, issues concerning underwater life, and the level of harassment encountered by the whale sharks during the four months when they feed within the National Park of Isla Contoy and outside the reserve.
   Students from the middle schools of the state of Quintana Roo are invited to participate, and each delegation shall consist of two students and an adviser. The choice of participants is at the discretion of each school. Accommodations and food will be provided by the government of Isla Mujeres, but transportation is the responsibility of each participating municipality.  Those who are interested can make contact by phone or email at , (01) 9982742579 and direccionecologiaim@gmail.com.
