Because the clutch of the ferry "Isla Blanca" was faulty, it has remained out of commission since Tuesday for three consecutive days, affecting deliveries to various businesses of the island. The ferry "Sergio Aguilar Gracia" has less capacity than the "Isla Blanca", and it is not known when the larger vessel will be operational again.
Because the "Sergio Aguilar Grace" has been providing service the past three days, the ramp at the terminal in Punta Sam suffered a broken steel cable. The vessel has its own ramp, which sits low on the existing ramp and doubles the weight, which caused the cable to break.
There are dozens of trucks of two and three axles waiting to be transferred to the mainland, and the trash compactor trucks from the Trash Transfer Facility have not been able to cross, and those odors are causing unease among the other drivers. There are also trucks in Punta Sam that are waiting to cross.

Hundreds of dead fish floating at the banks of Salina Grande this morning
The vehicle ferry "Isla Blanca" will remain out of operation for ten more days
A company representative confirmed that the Isla Blanca ferry (the largest one) is out of operation for maintenance and will remain so for at least ten days. Jose Sunza said this is a result of the constant "varamientos" (literally: strandings) because of the lack of an adequate job of dredging the navigation channel. He said at the moment only the ferry Sergio Gracia Aguilar is in operation and therefor only vehicles under 3.8 meters high can be transported. The company acknowledged that in recent days there was a problem with the ramp at the port of Punta Sam, but this was attended to by personnel with the Port Authority and has been remedied.

Dead fish found in salina

The municipal Department of Ecology is investigating the case after thousands of fish were found on the banks of Salina Grande for no apparent reason. Neighbors fear the problem is the result of heavy pollution, and say if they are not removed there will be a strong odor of putrefaction. The Director of Ecology, Cristina Medina Figueroa, said that the fish are of different ages and sizes, and commented, "We are analyzing the problem but cannot rule out that it is due to the heat and the temperature of the water changing in the salina, which may be killing the fish." She stressed that there is an investigation, but it must be quick, because there is a responsibility to remove the thousands of fish that are beginning to decompose, producing a bad odor around the salina in a matter of hours.

Terrible problem: Massive death of fish
“Terrible” problema, la muerte masiva de peces[+] Ver mas The municipal director of Ecology, Cristina Medina Figueroa toured the perimeter of Salina Grande to confirm the mass death of fish, which she described as "terrible". The Director of Health, Dr Tharin Sadat Vital Casique and personal of the Public Services Department were also present. They confirmed that it is a certain type of fish that dominates the shore of the salina, and there there are more fish that are living, and for this there it is important to monitor that a stable PH is achieved. Fish deaths occur in times of drought, but not in the quantities that has been happening this week, and thing could get worse if measures are not taken. Presumably there is no drainage of wastewater from the salina which takes up an area of 15 hectares, and there is no filtration of water discharged from homes that are not connected to the Aguakan sewer network, according to some accounts. Given that there are families that consume fish from this lake, there are concerns about the effects on children if there are contaminated fish, so they are rapidly trying to determine the cause of the problem, and to act to control it. The Director announced they would be cleaning around the salina starting on Friday at 6am, with the help of a group from Environmental Education and various officials. Samples were taken to a laboratory and the results could be ready on Tuesday. Bureaucrats predominate at march Predominaron burócratas en el desfile . With this, the patients with chronic degenerative disorders can maintain proper control of their conditions. Arrangements have been made with state health authorities to keep the pharmacy in Isla Mujeres stocked to meet the demands for patients with diabetes and hypertension The hospital currently has about 200 patients, however there is an agreement with the Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers (ISSSTE ) and the Mexican Institute of Social Security ( IMSS ) to supply them with medications such as: Pravastataina, Metformina, Glibenclamida insulina, Insulina intermedia, Insulina rápida, Metroprolol y Captropil, among others. |
