ISLA MUJERES, 21 de noviembre.-
Leer más...At 2 a.m. on Thursday night, Nitzia Xiomara Chan Cruz went to the General Hospital, with her mother in law, when she felt labor pains. Doctor Delfino Tenorio said she was not yet dilated, and he advised her to return at 9 in the morning. However at ~3:30am her labor had intensified, fluid was leaking indicating her waters had broken, so she attempted to go to the hospital. She only was able to go about 200 meters before giving birth outside the hotel Kinich Nah. Hotel, where hotel employee Domingo Chan Pech assisted her, providing towels and sheets.
Residents called the police and Red Cross, but after waiting nearly an hour, the mother and infant were given a ride in a golf cart to the General Hospital by a neighbor, Jesus Figueroa. The Hospital Director, Dr David Valenzo Loaeza, said he will investigate what occurred and pledged to give all the necessary care to the young mother and baby to assure they would leave the hospital in the best health possible.
It is noted that this is the second time in less than a year that this doctor had been involved in a similar case. Previously a mother gave birth at the Church after the doctor told her to return the next day.
(Por Esto's version reports that there were nearly 24 hours between that exam and the birth, and Quequi reports the neighbors waited about a half an hour before taking her to the Hospital in a golf cart.)

Preparations have been going on for months, particularly at the “Gremio de Señoras”, whose festival will take place at the Convention Center on December 6th. They have been raising funds for nearly a year, and began selling admission tickets several months ago. Their most recent action was putting up an announcement banner inviting all the women of the Island to attend this event.

Nace bebé en la calle ante negligencia
0 21 de noviembre de 2013
Por Carlos Gasca-Quequi.- Nitzia Xiomara Chan Cruz gave birth to her daughter outside a hotel on Juarez Avenue downtown when she was trying to get to the General Hospital. This is her second daughter, and she said that her labor began at two in the morning, and she sensed that her water had broken, so she decided to go to the General Hospital, where she was examined. She was told that there was not sufficient dilation. She said "The doctor asked me if I was okay, and I told him that I felt normal, but that my stomach felt hard at times. The doctor insisted it was not yet time and asked me to return at nine in the morning."
She said that after this visit with the doctor, she decided to return home, where the pains began to intensify. She said then she felt the baby's head begin to descend and she decided to return to the hospital, but to make matters worse, there were no cabs available. It was four in the morning and she started walking. She could take it no more and tried to return to her house, when she stopped, because she felt the baby's body coming. She sat down and gave birth outside a hotel.
Hotel employee Domingo Chan Pech helped her and took her in, and efforts were made to call the police and ambulance. After more than 30 minutes passed, she was moved to the hospital aboard a golf cart. There she was seen by doctors and nurses, having already delivered the placenta.
The Hospital Director confirmed that the baby is in perfect health, noting it was weighed 3 kilograms, and may have been a preterm birth. The baby will remain in the hospital for one more day under medical observation to rule out any complications, but the mother and baby are both reported to be in good condition. The Hospital Director will investigate to see if there was any negligence or medical malpractice. It is noted that Dr Delfino Tenorio was also involved when a child was born at the pastor's house at the Catholic Church on November 1, 2012. (Por Esto's version reports that there were nearly 24 hours between that exam and the birth)

Some stores on Hidalgo, the pedestrian street, and Rueda Medina, the main street are offering discounts to boost their sales and to turn over their merchandise so they can renew it for high season. In December they want to offer higher quality merchandise. One merchant said these sales help them compete with the mobile vendors, who they say may be offering cheaper, lower quality items for tourists on limited budgets. The stores are offering two for one promotions and discounts between 15 and 30 percent.

Gave birth to her infant in the street
Por Esto reports that Nitzia Xiomara Chan Cruz, is about 28 years old, and says that she gave birth at ~4am, while she was walking down Juarez Avenue, on her way to the hospital with severe abdominal pains. This premature birth occurred almost 24 hours after she had visited the hospital. At that time she had felt contractions, but the doctors said she was not in labor because she was not dilated. It was nearly 24 hours later when she gave birth on the way to the hospital. When the Red Cross did not arrive after they were requested, the mother and baby were taken to the hospital in a golf cart. She has already delivered the placenta when she was examined, and they were in good health. The hospital Director will investigate.

Today is Día del Músico in Mexico! November 22 commemorates St Cecilia, who is the patron saint of all musicians, according the the Catholic faith. The legend says that she was born in the city of the Caesars, where professing Christianity was a crime, and she sang hymns to God, which infuriated Caesar, and she was condemned and was executed on November 22, 230 AD. In the Middle Ages, painters represented her playing a musical instrument. The festival in her honor originated in Normandy as a tournament of musicians in that time and place. The celebration subsequently moved to Edinburgh, Spain, France, and Germany.
In Latin America, the Día del Músico began between 1919 and 1920, where it was first celebrated in Brazil, and then spread to other countries like Mexico, where this colorful event includes exhibitions, concerts, and even parades for all of those who speak the universal language of music.
