This information has been translated, with this article also noting that Islanders eagerly await the opening of the hospital in late August. Doña Carmen Garrido said she is looking forward to no longer having to transport her husband to Cancun for dialysis at least once a week, since this service is currently not available on the island. Adara Orlayneta said the new hospital services are urgently needed because there are many complaints about health services on the island.

On Saturday there were Recycling Trash for Food events in Cozumel, Tulum, and the Continental Zone of Isla Mujeres, which benefited a total 848 families. In Rancho Viejo, on the mainland part of the Isla Mujeres municipality, there were 11 tons of recyclable trash exchanged by 263 families.
The events also offer services including free medical consultations, legal counsel, screenings and exams for vision, diabetes, high cholesterol, hypertension, weight control, as well as an environmental education area.

A taxi driver who was visibly upset about the street closure said, "Normally we charge a worker 30 or 40 pesos to take them from their colonia to their workplace in Sac Bajo, but now with this detour which makes us go down to Garrafon, we are forced to charge 70 or 80 pesos, which greatly affects the workers."
A employee of a restaurant in Sac Bajo complained on social networks that she wanted to leave her work at midnight, but there was not a single taxi, so she had to wait until 3am for someone to pass by for her.

Controversy over skate park

There is a video on social networks criticizing the amount of money spent on the new Skate Park, which was 2.5 million pesos, as well as its design and that some elements are made of fiberglass. The video was made by Fabian Gutierrez, a skateboarder, who says he would rather skate in the streets and he accuses politicians of theft of public funds.

First sanctuary for abandoned cats

Veterinarian Delfino Guevara Collazo, has a animal hospital in colonia Salina Chica that is about to celebrate its one year anniversary, which includes a space of about 150 square meters adapted for use by abandoned cats. The veterinarian has worked for 15 years on campaigns of mass sterilization with capture-sterilization-release campaigns. The hospital provides clinical laboratory services, radiology, gas anesthesia with surgery, at low prices. Previously only about 60 percent of people who brought in animals paid for the services, but now everyone pays. The vet explained that the prices are much lower than those in Cancun.
He spoke about sterilization campaigns that began in 2000, and talked about improving awareness about pet care, which is going slowly, and he noted that there is still prejudice in some homes who expel their cat when a baby is born.
There are 50 cats in the sanctuary, most of which came from homes, but a few are wild. Meanwhile, the dogs in the streets have owners.
