Municipal activities to commemorate World Water Day LINK
Municipal activities to commemorate World Water Day included a clean up at Salina Grande lake with more than 100 volunteers, organized by the municipal Departmen of Ecology and the Environment, whose director noted that work to care for these ecosystems is carried out throughout the year. On this day special emphasis was given to encourage the inhabitants to be involved and to raise awareness about the necessary conservation and importance of water in the lives of all living beings.
He said educational discussions took place at Cesar Mendoza primary school and at Benito Juarez middle school about water management, in coordination with the NGO, Friends of Sian Ka'an, the Aguakan company, and the municipal ZOFEMAT (Federal Zone) agency.

Seeking donations for continued search for Canadian diver lost Saturday near Cozumel LINK (Posted March 21)
Cameron Donaldson is from Canada and performs therapeutic diving training for the disabled and people with post-traumatic stress disorder in James Bay. He lived in Cozumel part of the year, and returned to Canada for the summer diving program.
There is more information on the Go Fund Me page, where they have raised more than 55,000 for renting planes and helicopters, which cost about 600 dollars an hour according to this article, and to rent boats. They have been analyzing current patterns in the Gulf and Caribbean. Tracking could extend to the south of the US and to Cuba, whose governments have been informed about his possible presence in their waters.
Regarding private efforts in the search, in the morning nine boats left Holbox, going to Cape Catoche. Drones equipped with thermal cameras flew over Puerto Morelos, and tried going toward Isla Mujeres, but weather conditions caused navigation to be closed for small boats and interrupted the effort.
Two private planes flew over the Key Shores area in Florida for five hours. First mats of sargasso arrive to the island

March 21 Effects of Cold Front #44 cause the arrival of the first mats of sargasso to North Beach, which was minimal, especially compared to the amount that arrived last fall. On the first Monday of each month, there is usually a civic ceremony in the morning, often on the Town Square.
Fishermen in this region are banned from catching Lobster, Grouper and Octopus in March. Lobsters kept in captivity continue to be available, along with frozen tails. LINK

The parades are Sunday & Monday at 3p from the Naval Base to the
Monument to the Fishermen, so Rueda Medina will be closed. Although the
map doesn't show it, traffic is usually detoured down Juarez & the
section of Hidalgo that is south of the Square (which usually affects
where parking is allowed on Juarez, temporarily.)It says...Due to celebrations for Carnaval 2019 in Isla Mujeres, March 1-5, there will partial, temporary road closures for the performances of the dance troupes.
On March 3 & 4, Rueda Medina will be closed during the parade. Please plan ahead, and thank you for your understanding.

On or around March 4th, there is usually a ceremony commemorating the arrival of Francisco Hernandez Cordoba in 1517, who is credited with discovering the Yucatan and what is now Mexico, after landing on Isla Mujeres. The expedition of 110 men and 3 boats sailed from Cuba and and sailed around the coast, battling with the Maya, until all but one were injured, and over 50 had died.
