From Yesterday...... (He has been missing since Saturday at 4p)
Searching near Cozumel for missing Canadian diver & seeking help & donations to search a large area. This morning's update said his mom is lining up a couple private planes and a helicopter.
Last night's update..: The air search has been suspended for the evening with no signs of Cameron. I’m told the search will begin again at sunrise.
We have had divers in the water to 80-100 feet for a fair portion of the wall and found nothing, but we can use some CCR divers willing to make a 50 meter extended dive. It’s very unlikely Cameron is down there, but we should rule it out. If anyone has these skills, please contact us.
At this point the search is obviously well outside the Cozumel area,
too. We need all the eyes in the sky we can get. If anyone knows any
private pilots / planes in Cuba, Cancun, Houston, and Tampa / Miami
please let them know we need their assistance.

"Mega Plant": For emergency use LINK
The Superintendent of the CFE (Federal Electricity Commission) in the Northern Zone of Quintana Roo, Gonzalo Paredes Plancarte, said that the replacement of the underwater electrical line for Isla Mujeres will be a reality with the authorization of the budget, and this installation of a mega generator plant is the first step. At this time, it will only operate in the event of a prolonged blackout, and is for emergency use.
The installation of the plant could be completed in a few days. It has the capacity for 25,000 kilowatts, while the island's current usage is around 12,000 kW.
He explained that the replacement of the underwater line could begin next year, since it will take about 12 months for the cable to be supplied by the company that makes it, because of its length. It will be made according to the specifications that are needed.
Mr. Paredes Plancarte said, "It will be installed beside the old cables because the ones that are in operation are currently full of shells and it would be impossible to remove them."

A golf cart driver lost control of the vehicle they rented from Gomar II at the intersection at the south side of the Naval base, and it went over onto the pavement. The traffic police and Red Cross paramedics came to the scene and the injured tourists were taken to the Community Hospital for treatment after being evaluated. (photos)

This article is dated March 18 and apparently published yesterday after I had finished. The sky has gotten very overcast and the temperatures are cooler. At 9am, there are bigger breakers, but no whitecaps.Por Esto reports that Cold Front #44 is expected to be stronger on Wednesday and to continue affecting the Yucatan channel until Friday. The Conagua forecast said that the stationary characteristics of this front over eastern and southeastern Mexico, and its interaction with a trough over the Yucatan peninsula, has the potential to generate heavy rain in that region.

Over the long weekend, hoteliers reported occupancy of 90 percent, and this is attributed to the beaches being free of sargasso. The sargasso-free beaches also attract tourists staying in hotels in Cancun and the Riviera Maya. The municipal director of Civil Protection reported that there was a "saldo blanco" (no serious incidents) during the long weekend, and their focus was on the downtown area and the beaches, since they were the most crowded areas of the island.To maintain the Blue Flag designation at Playa Centro and the White Flag designation at North Beach, cleaning is done every weekday from 5a to 10a, and on Saturday on Sunday from 7a to 10a. This work includes raking the sand to remove any trash, as well as collecting garbage and checking the waste deposits.
This is done by the ZOFEMAT agency, who also offer amphibious chairs at Playa Centro for use by people with disabilities.

Within ten minutes walk are a variety of restaurants including Mango Cafe, Brisas, Manolitos, La Chatita, Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, and the large department store-grocery , Chedraui. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Attend Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants. It takes 20-30 minutes to walk downtown.

On the first Monday of each month, there is usually a civic ceremony in the morning, often on the Town Square.
Fishermen in this region are banned from catching Lobster, Grouper and Octopus in March. Lobsters kept in captivity continue to be available, along with frozen tails. LINK

The parades are Sunday & Monday at 3p from the Naval Base to the
Monument to the Fishermen, so Rueda Medina will be closed. Although the
map doesn't show it, traffic is usually detoured down Juarez & the
section of Hidalgo that is south of the Square (which usually affects
where parking is allowed on Juarez, temporarily.)It says...Due to celebrations for Carnaval 2019 in Isla Mujeres, March 1-5, there will partial, temporary road closures for the performances of the dance troupes.
On March 3 & 4, Rueda Medina will be closed during the parade. Please plan ahead, and thank you for your understanding.

On or around March 4th, there is usually a ceremony commemorating the arrival of Francisco Hernandez Cordoba in 1517, who is credited with discovering the Yucatan and what is now Mexico, after landing on Isla Mujeres. The expedition of 110 men and 3 boats sailed from Cuba and and sailed around the coast, battling with the Maya, until all but one were injured, and over 50 had died.
