City celebrates International Coastal Clean up Day with enthusiasm

Celebra Comuna Día Internacional de la Limpieza de Playas

Lanrry PARRA
ISLA MUJERES, 19 de septiembre.-.
Numerous groups of students, employees, officials, and volunteers worked enthusiastically on Saturday morning in celebration of the National Coastal Clean Up Day. The City organized this beach cleaning initiative, which began at an early hour, with 153 participants gathering at the Whale Shark monument. They collected 293 kilograms of trash from the coastline between the car ferry dock and the restaurant Comejen, and from the beach in front of colonia Guadalupana.
Participants included students from Colegio Jean Piaget and their director Patricia Rodriguez, as well as officials and staff of the municipal Department of Ecology, of the Federal Zone agency, of the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas, and of the restaurant El Comejen and from Dolphin Discovery.
In addition to the work of cleaning the beaches of trash, they also educated the fishermen who leave their boats in this area about appropriate disposal of oil and other liquids. The goal of the celebration was to raise awareness among young people and other groups to maintain our beaches in optimal condition. The formal ceremony was led by Cesar Poot Perez, the municipal General Secretary, and the officials who attended are listed in the article with their titles.

National event commemorates the importance of Civil Protection

ISLA MUJERES, 19 de septiembre.-
National Civil Protection week began on Sept. 13 and ended on Sept. 19, which was National Civil Protection Day, in memory of the earthquake that devastated Mexico City on that date. During this week, the staff of Civil Protection organized training sessions for agencies and companies to educate their staff about how to respond to emergencies and to raise awareness about being prepared, so that there are procedures to follow and correct actions are taken immediately.
The Coordinator for Civil Protection in the Northern Zone of Quintana Roo acknowledged the work of the men and women who are responsible for safeguarding lives and he spoke about recent events in the state including the earthquake in Tulum, the collapse of a section of the Cancun-Chetumal highway just past Puerto Morales, and forest fires, among other events.
In memory of the history of the earthquake, the National Flag is flown at half-mast on Sept. 19 and commemoration ceremonies are held across the nation, since this was decreed in 2001, when the "National Day of Civil Protection" was decreed. This emotional event takes place simultaneously in 2454 municipalities, and includes a moment of silence for those killed in the performance of their duties.
Recognition was given to the companies who participated in National Civil Protection Week, and to the volunteers for rescue work.  The Mayor was represented by City Council member Miriam Trejo Leon, and the other officials who attended are listed in the article with their titles.

Closure seals removed from Los Sueños Park after $200,000 peso fine paid

Parque se los Sueños paga multa por $200 mil

Lanrry PARRA
ISLA MUJERES, 19 de septiembre.-
Following payment of a fine, closure seals were removed one week after they were placed on Los Sueños Park by inspectors from the Department of Urban Development because the park lacked a construction permit. The Director of Urban Development, Josué Villanueva Vargas, said the fine of approximately 200,000 pesos was paid on Tuesday by the company “Los Sueños Holding SA de CV”, and therefore from that date they could resume normal operations.
The fine was levied against construction that took place adjoining the hotel Casa de los Sueños in an unauthorized manner, called  “Parque de los Sueños”, of an estimated 276 square meters. The penalty was imposed because there was no construction permit issued from the municipal Department of Urban Development. He explained that with this payment to the City, the work is considered in order with the municipality.
The municipal official said, however, within the Federal Zone, there are guidelines from Federal agencies such as PROFEPA (Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection and SEMARNAT (Department of the Environment and Natural Resources). He notes that one of the requirements from SEMARNAT is an Environmental Impact Statement. A fine of 1,000,046 pesos imposed by PROFEPA against the company, because  “Parque de los Sueños” was built in a coastal ecosystem without an Environmental Impact Statement.

September 19: National Civil Protection Day  (That's our former firetruck "Tweety/Piolin" in the background...on a good day when it was running! About a year ago, it broke down on the way to the hospital fire downtown. It was a hand-me-down from Cozumel. Now we have a new truck and a new station.)

To prevent Dengue and Chinkungunya we must abolish breeding grounds for the mosquitoes that carry these diseases. This is the only solution to avoid these diseases. Take precautions.

    INFRAESTRUCTURA

    Rehabilita Armada vivienda

0 20 de septiembre de 2015 by Carlos Gasca
The Naval truck that damaged the home, after rolling 100 meters down an incline, was being used for moving household goods, and fortunately there were only material damages, and no casualties. The Naval Commander, Juan Guillermo Fierro Rocha, came to the scene and promised to have the damage repaired, and acknowledged that the accident could have had serious consequences.
The Naval insurer visited before noon and made estimates of the materials that would be needed. The house was cordoned off and is being guarded by staff of the Navy while the family are being temporarily accommodated in a Naval house located just 200 meters from the accident. After yesterday's shock, now Sra. Clemencia Punto is waiting for their home to be repaired and hoping that the work is not delayed by rains.
(Diario Q Roo/Lanrry Parra notes.... Indications are that the accident occurred due to carelessness of the operator of the truck with eight tons of cargo, which literally entered the kitchen of a private house in Colonia Salina Grande. )

Hi all!! We (Isla Animals) are gearing up for a HUGE Spay/Neuter, Vaccination, Wellness campaign for the animals in Rancho Viejo Nov 17-22. This is a very poor area in the municipality of Isla Mujeres. Most are living without electricity and running water. The situation for the animals there is dire right now with parvo & distemper running rampant, and heavy overpopulation. We expect to treat/vaccinate/spay/neuter 1000 cats & dogs with the cost of surgery at just $10us per dog. This may be the only time any of these animals see a vet. We can treat the existing animals, vaccinate others against disease, curb the population growth, and educate pet owners on proper animal care and make a HUGE DIFFERENCE!! We have the knowledge, experience, volunteers, and heart to make it happen. We are asking for all of your help to raise funds to make the campaign a reality. (We can also accept Paypal donations via our site islaanimals.org - just add RANCHO VIEJO in message, and cash in person on Isla Mujeres. Please, please share the link on your social media. It helps us so much. If you are not in a position to donate PLEASE do read the campaign & share, there is lots of excellent info in it about the work we do-There is always so much to do! Thank you for your time! http://www.gofundme.com/isla-animals-rv
