At the end of the meeting, the attendees expressed their appreciation and approval for this form of government that is open, honest, and transparent.

The Director of Civil Protection wants people to avoid littering and the article mentions areas were water accumulated during the two days of heavy rains, which were: In front of the Agencia del Ministerio Público (That's on Rueda Medina, south of town, I think), in colonia Electricistas, at the Muncipal Market downtown“Javier Rojo Gómez” and la avenida Rueda Medina (main street).

It is noted that the number of mobile venders increases during high season and this has begun. It is noted that their overhead is lower than that of the stationary businesses. And that is Angela, who has been selling on the beach for over a decade., in low season and high. She is very polite and unintrusive when she tries to sell her jewelry.

The 482nd anniversary of the appearance of the Virgen Morena del Tepeyac was celebrateed in Isla Mujeres, beginning on December 11th with a foot race to the Guadalupe Chapel, and the singing of the mananitas that followed, and the celebrations continued as many islanders came to the church to bow before her feet and give thanks for favors received. At noon on the 12th, the taxi union members arrived with banners and prayers. There was a procession to a party in La Gloria with food, smiles, and presents. Children were dressed as Juan Diego and as Maria, who were brought to the Chapel by their parents to participate in these traditions and celebrations honoring the Virgin of Guadalupe.

Regarding the fall in student achievement at the middle school, the director of Education, Rocio Rodriguez Herrera said they are limited as to what they can do in the classroom if there is not support from the parents at home, noting it takes a healthy family environment for students to achieve grades of 8-9 points, and an ongoing communication between school and home is essential.

Not all the small hotels are reporting good reservations for Christmas and New Years, but they are hoping to sell their remaining rooms in the upcoming days. On Friday, Por Esto reported there are nearly 20 small hotels that are interested in forming an association to work together to seek alternatives to reverse the lower occupancy rates of the recent years. There was a first meeting on this topic on November 30 at the Bahia Chacchi, which was attended by 17 representatives of the small hotels. They listened attentively to a Tourism representative from the United Nations Organization, Dr Armando de Lucas Hurtado who spoke about helping small businesses in the hotel industry amid this globalized economy.
Expectations are high for this proposal, so in the following meetings it is expected that the small business owners will make agreements and reverse the downward trend in occupancy

They have been working for over a year and have a poster campaign that will be exhibited in upcoming weeks in public buildings. Private support is requested to help display the posters for this campaign. These efforts also involve two municipal departments: la Dirección de Ecología, (dept of Ecology), Seguridad Pública (police), in addition to the NGO's.
Acts of cruelty include leaving an animal in the sun or rain, failure to give them food or water, and failure to bathe them or seek medical care when they are ill. There are also sanctions for people who intentionally abandon their pets, for those who fail to give normal care, and for indiscriminate reproduction, as well as sales of pets without proper permits. There are penalties for hitting animals, causing fights, or other actions that cause physical harm, as well as walking a dog without a collar, leash or registration tag, and for not cleaning up the dogs excrement. This includes neglect or abuse of any animals, including iguanas, dogs, cats, crabs, birds, among others. There are penalties for people whose pets cause damage or inconvenience to third parties, and they are also responsible for covering those expenses. There are penalties for people who let their dogs walk freely in the streets or public places.

December is here, and we are collecting shoes and donations for our annual Christmas Party and shoe delivery. Last year every child that came for shoes walked away with a new pair for Christmas!
This is the one time of year we only collect new shoes in order to make each child feel extra special.
Not only do we distribute shoes, but we join with the local community to provide a meal and a small gift. It is a special event, as for some of the children, it will be their only Christmas gift. They are already looking forward to it on December 24th.

The schedule changed slightly, it was originally Mon 12/16-Wed 12/18, but now will be just 2 days, Tues 12/17 + Wed 12/18 10am -1pm.
• This Boot Camp is for students who have a working knowledge of using verbs in the present tense (are familiar with verb conjugations) and who want to strengthen their skills speaking in the present tense in daily situations, like restaurants, shopping, making connections with Isleños, etc. • We will review and practice irregular verbs (stem-changing verbs, gustar verbs, reflexive verbs) as well as expand vocabulary associated with daily activities. • Additionally we will practice tricky verb usages with ir vs. venir, llevar vs. traer, when to use (and not use) the verb hacer, and more… • Fun, interactive games and activities will be used to enhance the learning process. • Participants can join us for both days or just one day, depending on their schedules.
