Harbor Master Recommends Taking Precautions

The Harbor Master has recommended that all fishermen and boaters take precautions before the arrival of Tropical Wave #3. They have seven boats and the support of the Navy in the event of a contingency. The potential effect upon the boats depends on the intensity of the rainfall, and boaters are advised to be aware of weather forecasts and to the signal flags on the dock of the API, so they will be aware of any navigational restrictions. The fishermen are aware of what precautions to take when there are heavy rains and winds exceeding 40 km per hour because Isla Mujeres has faced major rains and hurricanes in the past. As for the tourists, the Department of Tourism and the Civil Protection agency will provide information to hoteliers, and give support in any risky situations. Source: Por Esto

HIV Workshop & Screenings
Volunteers of Brazos Abiertos (Open Arms) conducted a workshop with dozens of members of the Navy about the prevention and detection of HIV. The NGO also offers free HIV screening..  The wife of the Commander supported the activities, and it is noted that she is a person committed to social causes who helped organized the workshop. Last year this workshop was given to members of the police force. It says in the case of the sailors, these efforts are excellent since because of their work off base for days or months at a time, they are sometimes at risk of contracting this disease. The Navy conducts these tests each year, however this was useful information and a successful workshop.
Regarding the free HIV testing, on Friday from 10pm to midnight there were 30 HIV screenings done confidentially at the City Hall, while giving away condoms and information about their use. This activity was resumed on Saturday morning in the park at La Gloria, where over 200 tests were preformed, despite a logistical error causing a lack of tables and chairs. Merchants Still Dislike Competition From Mobile Vendors
Diario Respuesta/Jesus Molina said merchants complained to him about the mobile vendors, especially those from Chiapas, saying their numbers are increasing. The business owners and mangers complain that the mobile vendors have less overhead, and that some of the women have their children with them, involved in selling. They are also complaining about the food stalls on Rueda Medina, as well as the foreigners who sell items at night without permits, on the pedestrian street, Hidalgo.

 Working on Father's Day
Por Esto interviewed 58 year old Raul Euan Chan who was spending Fathers Day working as normal, providing for his family. He has five children and became a father when he was 16, which he said was very difficult. He has two daughters and three sons, and is now a grandfather. He said his life was more difficult when he was younger, when sometimes there was a lack of money for food. He said he had lacked guidance about how to be a good father, but he tried hard to keep his family together, which is hard now that everyone has their own family. He has worked for over 10 years in a grocery store, and has worked hard to give the best to his children, and provide what they are unable to for his grandchildren. He said it is true that we grandparents spoil our grandchildren, because many times there were things we could not give our children, because it is very hard when you first become a father, and you are not prepared. However it is very satisfying as they grow older, and they remember, and show you their love at times like this.

Sat & Sun June 22 & 23 : Super Full Moon (6:50, 7:50, & ~hour later nightly)

Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year. BTW the serpent shadow moving on the steps of Chichen Itza occurs with the Equinoxes.

Super Moon of June: The biggest brightest moon of the year
This year the Supermoon will be up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than a typical Full Moon is. This is a result of the Moon reaching its perigree — the closest that it gets to the Earth during the course of its orbit. During perigree on June 23 the Moon will be “only” about 221,824 miles away, as compared to the 252,581 miles away that it is at its furthest distance from the Earth (apogee). Source link

The Morning Edition has newspaper photographs and headlines.
This Afternoon Edition has translated articles, events, and original photos with the "Around the Internet in the Past 24 Hours" section.
Both blogs always have links to the original articles.
Usually if  there is a headline, but no translation,  it was probably published in another paper recently, and the information was translated.in a previous post, usually in the past couple days.
