April 20, 2018   On Monday, April 16, the delegate for SINTRA in Isla Mujeres, Isis Morales Melendez, began reviewing the golf cart rental agencies, and has visited seven of the 27 active businesses so far. The agencies have received various types of recommendations, which should be resolved within a week. She said the main irregularities are expired insurance policies and problems with some of the license plates that were issued by the local Recaudación de Rentas / Revenue Collection office.
She said they are assembling a data base, to develop an application, in addition to being part of the regular duties of SINTRA, which include identifying all vehicles that are legitimately covered by a concession. After corroborating that all the carts are covered by a concession, verification is done that they are legal with proper plates and an insurance policy, among other requirements.
She said these same measures will be applied to rental motorcycles and bicycles, but they are beginning with the golf carts, specifically the smaller rental houses, which are a priority since this is one of the most frequently used services. She said their final verifications will be of the cargo vehicles that come to the island and are on the island.

IM Noticias has photos of seaweed washing up on the beach facing MIA, by Na Balaam, in the area known as el Riito, as does Noti Isla Mujeres.

On Islaholics there are photos and videos of canoes arriving on Playa Norte, who appear to be part of the annual 'test run' done here for the Travesia Sagrada Maya which will take place in Cozumel May 25 and 26 LINK

Concern about the hurricane wall as the season approaches
Muro débil y vienen los ciclones. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
The 'cages' (gabions/los gaviones) below the hurricane wall that protects downtown have deteriorated and there are concerns that they are no longer serving their purpose of helping protect the downtown area.  Although the hurricane season begins in six weeks, there are no plans for reinforcing them. It is noted that part of this wall collapsed under the force of large waves caused by Hurricane Wilma in October 2005, (and was replaced). The gabions were installed after WIlma, and were expected to last for 30 years, but they suffered rapid weakening within a decade after installation.

From their FB page:
For the third year in a row, Action for Isla is happy to announce that we will be hosting our big Earth Day Clean-up, to bring awareness of this problem to our residents, and unite our community to work towards Ending Plastic Pollution. We will be tackling the waste build up on both land and sea with an in-water Dive Against Debris and simultaneous beach clean up!
🌎In 2016, 62 volunteers got together to remove 650kgs of waste from our beaches and seas, last year both numbers grew with 148 people collecting and sorting a whopping 1,090kgs of trash!! This year we hope to go even bigger! And we need your help!
📌Our 3rd Annual Isla Mujeres Earth Day Clean Up is this Sunday, APR 22!
