Navy says crew of Anastacia are not in Mexican territory or seas
Ni en el mar ni en territorio nacional
Los tripulantes de la “Anastacia”: Armada

ISLA MUJERES, 21 de abril.-
ISLA MUJERES, 21 de abril.-
The Commander of the Fifth Naval Region, Vice Admiral Tomas Lopez Hernandez said that the five fishermen aboard the Anastacia are not in national territory or national seas, because the Navy has gone over the coast and Mexican sea many more times than is usually done. He said normally, official searches take place during the first 96 hours, or the first four days after notice is given of a disappearance, but this was an exception, by authorization of the Secretary of the Navy, Vidal Francisco Soberon Sanz, to continue the search as long as the Vice Admiral Tomas Lopez Hernandez deemed necessary. To date it has exceeded the legally established period by six times, and continues without positive results.
He said that in addition to searching for the missing fishermen by sea, the Secretary of the Navy provided an airplane of the type "Persuader", which has the latest technology for search and rescue. On the sea, there were two oceanic patrols, Uxmal and Morelos, as well as the Democrata, Oaxaca, and other patrols.
On Wednesday, April 20, by special request from the families, a patrol was sent to the coast of the back side of Isla Blanca, where there is a great deal of mangrove swamp, looking for remnants of the boat, Anastacia, with negative results.
He said they have searched the coasts and Mexican seas many more times than is usually done, using a great deal of resources, but they will not stop. The ships and planes will return to their regular tasks, but will continue to search for the lost five fishermen as an auxiliary, complimentary task. He emphasized that the boat "Anastacia" will not be forgotten in a file, but rather, the planes and ships will continue looking for signs of the lost boat or its crew, while doing their routine work.
The commander said they are no longer at sea because the currents and tides would have brought the boat to some point. He said they consulted the builders of the Anastacia who said the boat has five unsinkable areas, therefore, if the boat had been shattered, these five unsinkable pieces would not go to the bottom. He explained that these unsinkable pieces are large, and would take 200-300 years to deteriorate. He said this makes it clear that the Anastacia did not sink, because by now they would have found these parts that float.
He said what remains to be done is to keep looking at coasts, but not in Quintana Roo, because they are not here, because the Navy has searched from the channel of Zargoza to Puerto Progreso by land, air, and sea, with help from the Infantry.

The Chief of Police, Joaquin Acosta Poot said the regular night patrols will continue, which include the beaches and tourist areas, but no special measures have been implemented following the arrival of many Cubans recently. He said regarding the group of twelve who swam ashore at a beach on Monday at dawn, a search was made downtown, amid speculation that there were more of them.
The Chief of Police said they coordinate fully with the Navy when events occur near the water, and there have been countless cases of this type of Cuban migration over the past 15 years. The Navy had no comment, and issue statements when there are arrests and rescues. Other information in this article has already been translated.

The search for the five fishermen of the Anastacia has resumed in the area where it started on April 1, from Punta Molas, Cozumel to Isla Contoy, including the areas near Holbox and the Yucatan Channel. Among those conducting this search is Jorge de la O Pino, father of the captain of the missing boat, which sailed on March 30th, intending to fish in an area near Cozumel.
On Tuesday, the media was advised that a rented plane searched for a second time over the southern part of the state, to the border of Belize. A group went to the Naval headquarters to encourage the military commanders to continue the search. Patria & Progresso cooperative remains the headquarters and meeting place for the friends and families of the missing men.

The Red Cross ambulance is able to continue serving the community, but it needs four new tires, and there are concerns that failure to replace them could result in an accident. A witness said a few days ago a front tire blew out and this nearly caused a collision, but thankfully the operator was able to control the vehicle in time. Of the two ambulances owned by the institution, one is in a garage in Cancun, and it is not longer of use because of transmission problems. The units should be in service for five years, according to Red Cross protocols. Both are 2001 models
