Arriving ferries still full despite being past the busiest part of Easter

A pesar de haber transcurrido la parte “más intensa” de Semana Santa

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 30 de marzo.
Although the number of tourists arriving daily during this second week of the Easter holiday period has decreased, they continue to fill all the seats of the ferries. The boats no longer are running extra crossings, which was done last week in the mornings from Gran Puerto to the island, and in the afternoon in the opposite direction.
An average of 17,000 people crossed daily starting on Holy Thursday, and expectations were met for the number of tourists during this current holiday period. It is estimated that during the Easter holiday period, more than 200,000 vacationers will visit the island.
In February, there were 163,789 passengers, which is an increase of 20 percent over the previous year, when there were 136,652 arrivals. It is noted that the designation of "Pueblo Magico of Isla Mujeres" is now an attraction for international and domestic travelers.

The port was open for general navigation, and the weather was sunny and pleasant for tourism activities. The fleet of about 200 recreational boats were able to move at least 3000 visitors. A "Saldo blanco" (no incidents) remains since the beginning of the holiday season, and some credit is given to preventative measures issued in advance by the agencies involved with the Safety Committee. The Tourism Department reported only minor incidents which have been favorably resolved, such as minor golf cart accidents. There have been no complaints about bad service at this time, although this doesn't mean there are no deficiencies among some of the service providers.

The Federal Commission for Protection Against Sanitary Risks (COFEPRIS) has been conducting ongoing inspections at food related businesses, and some are being sanctioned for failure to comply with regulations, although the number is unknown because this information is processed in Cancun. They inspect the facilities and documents, as well as taking samples from surfaces, food, clothing and workers. They observe that procedures are being followed and that workers are familiar with them,. They give special attention to sites where seafood is processed and consumed, as well as monitoring seawater. They also assure that manufacturers of bottled water and producers of ice are following all protocols. There have no cases of salmonella reported.
