Today, Isla Mujeres reports three more cases of C-19 for a total of 250, with 23 deaths and 206 recovered. The geoportal for 1/15 reports six active cases by colonia with 1 in La Gloria, 1 in Salina Grande, and 4 in Meteorologico. On the national map for 1/14, Isla Mujeres reports 182 suspicious and 151 negatives.
GOVERNOR--Testing for Tourists, Vaccinations Have Begun & Businesses Need to Step Up C-19 Prevention Protocols
Last night, the Governor said both regions of the state will remain in Yellow on the state epidemiological traffic light, but statistics are trending toward orange rather than toward green. He said this is particularly true in the Southern Zone where the Contagion Risk Rate had been at 1.0 but has risen to 1.3, which was very concerning, and hospital occupancy is on the rise.
He said the Contagion Risk Rate has remained more stable in our Northern Zone, but is just above 1 and hospital occupancy has grown to 26%. He said Orange occurs 'in the 30's', but didn't specify a number. (A Contagion Risk Rate of less than 1 means a downward curve, at 1, each case infects one other case).
The Governor urged the business owners at all levels to take full responsibility for maintaining the protocols and precautions against Covid 19. He said when capacities are exceeded, facilities don't comply with hygiene measures, or are hiding behaviors they think aren't being seen, this represents irresponsibility and a lack of commitment to the state. He said this poses a risk to the safety of residents and visitors, which threatens the economic reactivation.
The state Secretary of Tourism joined him to discuss the availability
of tests for tourists, particularly antigen tests, which she said will
be provided in hotels, guaranteeing coverage for 70,000 rooms, in
addition to availability from clinics and laboratories. She said they
cost around $75usd and the requirement goes into effect on Jan. 26 for
passengers returning to the United States, noting requirements went into
effect for Canadians earlier in the month.

Yesterday, Naval personnel rescued four people in a boat that was adrift 5.4 nautical miles (~10km) east of Isla Contoy. The Naval Search and Rescue Unit of Isla Mujeres received an emergency call that an IMEMSA-type boat named "Olivia" was adrift due to mechanical failures, with four Mexicans aboard. The Navy immediately dispatched a MLB-type boat with specialized personnel aboard, who provided assistance and brought the boat and crew to the Naval pier, where they were met by staff with the Harbor Master's office, to complete the required procedures. They were all in good health and didn't require any specialized medical care and left by their own means.

Jan. 6 Dia de los Tres Reyes/Three Kings Day
The Thor Heyerdahl traveling school-sailboat normally visits in late January-early February with about three dozen high school students on board. Under the tutelage of the experienced crew, the students learn to work together, sailing and navigating, as well as receiving their normal lessons. They sail from Germany to the Caribbean, but it's very possibly suspended this year.
