Good voter turnout in Isla Mujeres
Votaron isleños de forma masiva [+] Ver masFull article at this link
Officially, the election day starts at eight in the morning, but the first few voting sites opened at 8:15am in Isla Mujeres, while the later ones began to receive voters after 9:00am hours and the last ones opening at nearly 9:30am, which annoyed the people who were waiting, including some who arrived at 6:30am. Some of the early risers brought chairs to wait in more comfort, while the most prepared brought their umbrellas to protect themselves from the strong sun.
The absence of polling station officials was another factor that affected the voting sites that didn't open on time, which happened at the school Julio Sauri Espinoza.
The night before the elections, police patrols were increased to prevent any potential disturbances.

Jesús Contreras Gómez, head of the Revenue Collection agency, reported that inspectors with his agency had not found any violations of the Dry Law as of noon on Sunday. He said that in the days prior to the Dry Law going into effect, he held a meeting with the presidents of the business organizations CANACO and CANIRAC, as well as representatives of other associations, in which he explained the restrictions and the potential sanctions if they violated the regulations. He listed the types of businesses that were subject to the law, including cantinas, minisupers, bars, and others, and explained that restaurants associated with hotels were allowed to sell alcohol with food to foreigners.
The inspectors began continually monitoring businesses at an early hour, who could be subject to fines of 50,000 to 80,000 pesos, in addition to closure, if they violated the law.
Good turnout of tourists on Sunday

July 1 With pleasant weather, large numbers of tourists visited the island and the port was open for general navigation, so activities were taking place at sea also. The cooperatives offering boat tours reported fewer clients than expected, which they attributed the reduced demand to the elections, because many nationals prefer to vote where they live. They expect business to increase by mid-week, which they hope will continue thru mid-August, weather permitting.
The meteorological report from the Navy forecasts increasing winds, which could cause some navigational restrictions. (The ocean is calm at midday Monday.)
Mishap by election official

An official with the Electoral Institute of Quintana Roo (IEQROO) who was supervising the opening of the polling station at the former hospital downtown, left his car parked with the engine running and it began moving on its own.
The silver compact car, with Mexico City plates, was in the parking area on Guerrero by the entrance to the malecon (by the Paseo de la Triguena) when it began moving and advanced several meters and hit the sidewalk curb.
A resident tried to stop its advance, and suffered mild injuries to his knees, which didn't require medical attention. The official appeared about three minutes later, as traffic was backing up, and moved the vehicle. Then he resumed his responsibility of opening the ballot box by 8am, and things returned to normal in the streets.
CANACO is optimistic about the summer season
Canaco optimista este verano+] Ver masFull article at this link The president of the National Chamber of Commerce (CANACO) in Isla Mujeres,
Juan Carrillo Figueroa, expects a good summer season, with shops and restaurateurs offering special promotions. During summer high season, about 10,000 visitors are expected daily, on the ferries and other boats, with a 15% increase anticipated, unofficially, due to the addition of the Marinsa and Naveganto ferries. There are concerns that the Punta Sam cargo ferry Maritima remains unable to provide passenger service, and that the Ultramar cargo ferry hasn't gone into operation.
