We are informing you that the reception of trash at the Trash Transfer Facility is FREE for citizens and companies. Take advantage of this service and bring your trash, gravel and plant material from construction sites. ( Local businesses pay an annual trash fee.) LINK
The municipal government works to keep the island clean and have a good image by having less trash in the streets.
Citizens who bring their junk to the Trash Transfer Facility to have never been charged, except for the construction companies that bring large volumes of gravel and plant material, since they require special handling to prevent them from saturating the Facility.
In order to reduce the presence of solid waste on the island, the service at the Trash Transfer Facility will be free for all, both for citizens and companies.
José Guadalupe Ríos Chalé, general director of Public Services, said that the commitment of the Municipality of Isla Mujeres is committed to ensuring that its inhabitants have quality services that are accessible, such as the collection and disposal of solid waste.
He invited the public to continue supporting the Department of Public Services by removing their garbage on time, and keeping the front of their houses, streets and curbs free of garbage. He said, "The cleanliness of the island is work we do as a team with citizens. Our commitment is to maintain the free service in addition to strengthening the system to collect and accelerate the transfer of trash at the facility."

Jan. 17 Harbor Master Ismael González Gil said the port has been closed since 8pm yesterday for small boats since the winds intensified just prior to the arrival of front cold number 23.The port was opened for all boats for 11 hours on Tuesday, after a week of closure for recreational activities by smaller boats and fishing. The cooler, windy weather is expected to continue for three days, and it is advised that precautions be taken to prevent respiratory infections, especially for the elderly and very young, who are more vulnerable.
Activities were limited due to the rain from an early hour until 10am, and the beaches were empty. Visitors wore raincoats as they drove around the island in golf carts. Some businesses were closed at noon. The weather caused some delays in businesses opening and absenteeism among some employees. The ferries were half empty for most of the day, and this is expected to continue until Friday when the weather is expected to improve.
The afternoon forecast of the National Water Commission (Conagua) included the arrival of a "norte" with gusts of more than 60 kilometers per hour, in the Yucatan Channel and with less force at the coasts of Quintana Roo. The cold air mass will affect the region until Sunday when another frontal system would be entering the Gulf of Mexico to advance towards the Yucatan Peninsula in the following days.

This article is about the 140 combis on the mainland part of the municipality, most of which are owned by the Isla Mujeres union and leased to private individuals and few own concessions. Each one of those responsible for those vehicles are being required to pay 5000 pesos for GPS location devices for their vehicles.

Fine dining a few steps away at Da Luisa or try the traditional neighborhood eateries a couple blocks farther. Within ten minutes walk are the restaurants Mango Cafe, Brisas, Manolitos, Green Verde, Kash Kechen Chuc, and the large department store-grocery Chedraui. Visit marinas, bars, & beach clubs that are minutes away by bike or on foot. Attend Yoga classes a couple villas away at hotelito Casa Ixchel. Fresh juice, produce & tortillas a few blocks away in the village, as well as a variety of other stores and small local restaurants. It takes 20-30 minutes to walk downtown.

Saturday, Jan. 6 Día de Reyes/ King's Day This day commemorates when the three kings or Magi visited Jesus & is the culmination of the twelve days of Christmas. Traditionally this is the day when Mexican children receive gifts (which are brought by the three kings as opposed to Santa). It is customary to eat Rosca de reyes, a sweet bread that represents King Herod's crown with figurines of baby Jesus hidden inside. Whoever finds the token in their piece is obligated to host a party on Candlemas Day (Dia de la Candelaria), Feb. 2, which usually includes tamales.
Festival for King's Day (Jan. 6) at the el Pescador baseball field in front of Chedruai on Saturday starting at 5p. More than 6000 people are expected to attend to enjoy the entertainment, surprises, and presents.
There's also a toy giveaway at Ruben's restaurant on Guerrero, but as of 8am on Jan. 5, they're unsure what time....probably ~11am.
Jan. 6 is Día de la Enfermera. This special day was established in 1931, when Dr. Jose Villagrana said nurses were like a "regalo de reyes"...a gift from the Magi. (International Nurse's Day is celebrated on May 12th, the birthday of Florence Nightingale).
