ISLA MUJERES, 11 de septiembre.-
Although the solar lights installed along the eastern malecon (seaside walkway) were supposed to have a lifetime of ten years, nearly half of them aren't working after less than two years. At the time they were installed, the director of Public Works, Miguel Caballero Garcia, said they were made with high tech materials from Spain and would be able to withstand the difficult conditions such as the high salinity, in addition to not requiring electricity. He said they were made with wrought iron, coated with a special polymer material and had LED bulbs, to last for ten years.

The staff of the municipal Office of Enforcement (Dirección de Fiscalización de Isla Mujeres) announced that they are doubling shifts to monitor the entire beach area to keep it free of mobile vendors, and they are coordinating with other agencies to assist with this work. They are helped by the Tourist Police in the areas of beach by the street, and have also sought assistance from employees of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Fed Zone).
The Mayor has requested that the public spaces be kept clear and that the vendors are not allowed to return to the beach areas and walkways along Rueda Medina. With coordination between the agencies, they hope to prevent the vendors from disturbing the tranquility of the people on the beach, and to prevent the sellers from returning to the beaches. This is considered especially important during holiday season, and the increased monitoring will continue until the end of the year.

Requesting more cashiers to take electric and water bill payments
Piden más cajeros a la CFE y Aguakan+] Ver masPhoto & full article at this link
Consumers are complaining about the long lines that form on paydays for customers trying to pay their water and electric bills. There have been requests that the CFE (Federal Electricity Commission) resume proving conventional cashiers, because sometimes the two machines are out of order, which occurred last week for three hours, according to Arturo Rios (former municipal Trustee). Users also complain about high charges for electricity. The CFE offices are located on Juarez avenue, behind the Naval base.
Aguakan only provides one cashier at its office, and consumers would prefer there were two. Customers also complain about increasing water costs, compared to a decade ago. Their office is located on Adolfo Lopez Mateos, near the Andres Quintana Roo elementary school.

Ocho salidas del ferry.. [+] Ver masPhoto & full article at this link
There is a temporary change in the vehicle ferry schedule because the boat "Sergio Gracia Aguilar" is providing service on its own, while the other boat "Isla Blanca" is receiving maintenance in Ciudad del Carmen. The maintenance work is expected to take about a month and the normal schedule will resume when the boat returns.
There will be eight round trips daily between Isla Mujeres and Punta Sam, except Sunday when there will be four.
The ferry will leave Isla Mujeres at 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19:00; and it will depart from Punta Sam at 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20:00.
On Sundays it will depart Isla Mujeres at 8, 10, 16 and 19 hours; and it will depart from Punta Sam at 9:15, 11:15, 17:15 and 20:15.
Precautions advised for small boats
Precauciones para la navegación. [+] Ver masFull article at this link
The SCT advised caution for small boats on Sunday evening and Monday morning in their weather forecast at 4pm on Sunday. They said there was a potential for moderate to heavy rains and lightning, with possible squalls and reduced visibility. Also, there are two tropical disturbances being monitored, with one having a low probability for development, which is located SE of the Bahamas, and the second has a high probability and is located in the Central Atlantic.
The National Water Commission (CONAGUA) said the arrival of the first cold front of the season into the Gulf of Mexico could influence a developing, weak low pressure system that is between Cuba and Florida when they meet southeast of the Golf of Mexico, and cause it to diminish. There is also the 28th Tropical Wave off the coast of Quintana Roo, whose effects are expected to be felt Sunday night and Monday morning. It clouded over above the island after 3pm and was threatening to rain. Prior to that, the weather was cooperative all day and the whale shark tour boats were working. The whale shark season will end soon, with Saturday being the last day. Other nautical recreational activities were taking place on Sunday, including trips to Isla Contoy, diving and sports fishing. The commercial fishermen were working at sea.

There are five Isla Mujeres teams in the child and youth categories who are hoping to win trophies in the upcoming competitions in the leagues "Guillermo Canedo" of the Taxistas and "Interfilial". The categories for the teams are "Starters" (Inicial) age 4-5, Young Children (Infantil Menor) age 6-7, Ninos Heroes age 8-9, Older Children (Infantil Mayor) age 10-11, and Youth (Juvenil Menor) age 12-13.
The competitions will begin later this month and into October, with trips to Cancun on the weekends to compete, which will be a joint effort between the parents and volunteers. The teams plan to start these tournaments off on the right foot, as they have in previous campaigns, and make a good showing. There is still space for more players.
There is a cabinet full of trophies and many stories of the great efforts, laughter, passion, suffering, and spirit that were shared by the members of the teams. The Isla Mujeres Mayor Infantil team were champions of the 2013-2014 season and the Ninos Heroes were champions in the 2015-2016 season, both in the Canedo league.
