A Catholic Mass was offered on Saturday morning seeking the safe return after three days of the missing five fishermen. In addition, family, friends, and the Isla Mujeres community have been on social networks offering their best wishes to the families and hopes for a safe return. People are offering prayers for a safe outcome, which are being echoed around the world, especially in the United States.

ISLA MUJERES, 2 de abril.-
Experienced seamen of Isla Mujeres say the search radius for the five missing fishermen should be about 150 nautical miles around the island. They say to accomplish this, each of the four boats participating requires at least 600 liters of fuel for these extensive trips in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico.
The father of one of the missing fishermen said they are considering hiring a PEMEX (Petroleos Mexicanos) helicopter, because that aircraft could initiate the search from the center of the Gulf of Mexico to the Caribbean, where it is presumed it could locate the missing boat of the five fishermen from Isla Mujeres.
They are also seeking collaboration from the state government with the Mexican Navy's sea and air units, plus hiring aircraft from Cozumel to intensify the search, mainly by air. The president of the Patria & Progreso fishing cooperative, Jaime Osorio Sanchez, said that locating the fishermen could be facilitated by the use of aircraft, noting that time is short and the sooner they are found, the less risks there are. One experienced fisherman said that it may be necessary to search to Cape San Antonio in Cuba which is located about 170 nautical miles from Isla Mujeres. However, there are obstacles that interfere with this work, because the participating boats lose communication with the mainland once they are 47 nautical miles from Isla Mujeres.
The Isla Mujeres Harbor Master said he is staying in constant communication with the Mexican Navy concerning the lost fishermen, and confirmed that so far there have been no signs of them.

Families seeking assistance from Navy
http://www.tvislamujeres.com.mx/…/familiares-solicitan-int…/
Some family members of the five missing fishermen are publicly seeking assistance from the Secretary of the Navy, Francisco Vidal Soberon Saenz and they want an intensified search by air. On social networks, Acosta Tum, a spouse of one of the young fishermen lost at sea for three days, asked for intervention by the Naval Secretary, to allow use of the local runway for planes, which they are seeking to lease, and thereby expedite the rescue efforts. She said, "The Admiral of the Fifth Naval Region does not want to give authorization, although my husband and three others have already been lost at sea for three days."
On social networks, there are questions about help from the Fifth Naval Region, whose Search and Rescue Unit included a helicopter, until more than a year ago, when it apparently was assigned to another area outside of Quintana Roo.The families are organizing funds to rent planes or helicopters to fly over an area of about 150 nautical miles.
Jaime Osorio Sanchez, fisherman with the Patria & Progreso cooperative said, "Now we want to concentrate our efforts on searching by air, because we think they may have been blown off course, over an area of 150 nautical miles, which makes it very complicated to search for them at sea in our boats."
To cover these expenses, the families of the five fishermen have organized, and yesterday they began seeking donations and collecting money. Many people responded Saturday afternoon and evening, giving donations toward the rental of aircraft.

Mass for the five missing fishermen

A Mass was held at the Sacred Heart of Jesus church on Saturday morning in honor of the five fishermen who are lost at sea, which was attended by family and friend seeking divine assistance in finding them. These spiritual efforts were joined on social networks where many people offered their prayers. Positive thoughts and direct support were offered during these difficult hours to don Fernando de la O Pino, father of Pipi's, who waited at the Patria & Progreso cooperative all day Saturday, with other family members, during the search. They watched until the last two boats of the search returned, and volunteers brought water and food for those who had helped with the search, traveling 80-90 miles northeast of Isla Mujeres to the Yucatan Channel.
The solidarity of the fishermen, their families, and their friends brought them together to provide support and back up. There is a great deal of goodwill among those involved in the search, and many are famous for participating in previous rescues, such as don Juan de Dios Garcia Povedano, who is captain of the boat "Wachisan".
Weather
Although the port was opened on Saturday for navigation by small boats, and the winds from the southeast had decreased, the boaters returning from fishing and recreational activities reported that the winds were stronger on the open sea.Winds are expected to decrease with the effects of the arrival of cold front #52, which could bring rain, cooler temperatures and gusting winds on Sunday, according to CONAGUA (National Water Commission).

Seven smaller vessels joined the Mexican Naval patrol searching for five fishermen missing since Wednesday night, looking in an area of the Yucatan Channel 80-90 miles northeast of Isla Mujeres. Sources confirmed that the Navy (SEMAR) had a plane searching on Friday in the area near Holbox, the Isla Contoy National Park, and Isla Mujeres, going some miles out to sea, and then it began searching near Punta Molas by Cozumel, which was where the missing fishermen made their last radio contact.
At 4:30am on Saturday, the first boat from Isla Mujeres ("Wachisan") went to Punta Molas and continued searching until noon in this area east of the port. At 6:30am the boat "El Mexicano" set out, followed by the "Maranatha", and then two others, according to Jaime Osorio Sanchez, president of the Patria & Progreso cooperative. The boats that went out Saturday afternoon from the Patria & Progresso dock were the "Vodkatonic" of the Fernandez family, and the "Hurricane".
Those missing are: Jorge Fernando de la O. Avalos “Pipis”, Marcos Bardales “Vampiro”, Alfonso Jiménez “Chatilly”, Rusel Cemé “Curro” y Beto. (On FB, Gloria de la O lists them as: JORGE FERNANDO DE LA O AVALOS and his crew ALFONSO JIMENEZ TORRES, HUMBERTO COMSTANTINO ORDAZ, RUSSEL PECH CEME and MARCO ANTONIO BARDALES PASTRANA)
Holbox fishermen found
The Navy reported that during this search they found two fishermen from Holbox were were lost at the same time in the southeasterly winds. They had no luck finding the fishermen from Isla Mujeres, and are continuing the efforts.
A military source said that while the search extends from the last point of contact from the missing seamen at dusk on Wednesday, there are no know points "B" or "C" of the activity of the fishermen, leaving uncertainty about the exact area where they became lost, and this is challenging in an emergency. A few fishermen expressed criticism about the crew's decision to go out on Wednesday, when there was a risk that the southeasterly winds were going to intensify, according to forecasts by CONAGUA (National Water Commission).
The Harbor Master has asked the support of all boaters, social media, and mass media to share images of the boat and news about the missing fishermen to assist in their discovery.
Desperate search for fishermen

Two planes and a US Coast Guard patrol will join the search for the five missing fishermen, after relatives and friends sought assistance from authorities at all three levels of government. They requested that government planes and Naval planes search over the rough seas of the Yucatan Channel, beginning on Sunday, which will be the second day of searching, and the fourth day since they men went missing.
One of the fishermen's family members, who live in the United States, sought help from US authorities, who offered assistance in the form of a US Coast Guard patrol, to search more extensively in international waters.
On Saturday, family members and friends were upset over the lack of assistance, and gathered on the pier of the Patria & Progreso coop for the return of the seven boats who had participated in the search, without finding a trace of Jorge Fernando de la O. Avalos "Pipis" Marcos Bardales "Vampiro", Alfonso Jiménez "Chatilly" Rusel Ceme "Curro" and Beto. They requested that the Mexican Navy (SEMAR) facilitate the participation by the US Coast Guard in this effort, after SEMAR had allegedly previously declined to give permission for efforts in this humanitarian cause. They regretted that the Mexican Navy allegedly did not have a plane participating in the search on Saturday, as well as the lack of direct participation by the municipal and state governments.
Shortly after 7pm, the boat "Huachisan" returned after spending more than twelve hours at sea, having departed the island at 4:30am. At 7pm, they were waiting for the last three boats to return, of the seven boats that particpated in the search, who were taking advantage of the last rays of the sun. Included in those who returned at that time was the "VodkaTonic", which had left the island at noon.
Friends and relatives said they are requesting financial support to help raise money to lease a plane for Sunday, noting that any amount is welcome, asking people to contact the family of don Fernando de la O Pino, or Jaime Osorio Sanchez.
At the last minute, a group of family members confirmed that two planes would be available from two levels of government, and the Navy would participate in the search on Sunday, in addition to the US Coast Guard, who will be searching in international waters.
