Passion of Christ reenactment will last over four hours this year

El Viacrucis de este año

Lanrry PARRA

ISLA MUJERES, 10 de marzo.-
This year there will be just one Viacrusis reenactment of the passion and death of Jesus, traveling a distance of about six kilometers, which is about two more kilometers. that the previous year, said Isla Mujeres priest Raul Sanchez Alonso. The event will begin at 10am on Holy Friday, March 25.
He explained that the Viacrusis will depart from the Sacred Heart of Jesus church in colonia La Gloria at 11am, going down the Avenue de los Peces, to the Avenue de las Aves, and then to the Guadalulpe Chapel in colonia Salinas. From there, they will continue to the Our Lady of Immaculate Conception church downtown. Previously there were separate reenactments by the La Gloria church and by the downtown church, but this is no longer the case.
At the press conference, it was explained that the actor playing Jesus, who is Wenceslao Trejo this year, will not carry a cross during this part of the procession, but will only walk as a slave,  to avoid stressing his physical health. The priest said that he will carry the heavy wooden cross for about four kilometers of the six kilometer distance.
The living representations of the Stations of the Cross, will begin at the Guadalupe chapel, where the Jesus actor will put on the crown of thorns, and begin going through the 14 stations until he reaches the church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, which is expected to occur around 3pm.

Mayor Agapito attends work meeting between Mayors & Federal officials

Mayor Agapito Magana Sanchez participated in the First Working Meeting of 2016 between mayors and federal delegates, for the benefit of coordination with the Federal Government. The meeting took place in  Bacalar, which also happens to be a Pueblo Magico, like Isla Mujeres.
Mayors and Federal officials  worked together on various programs and projects that the Federal government operates in the state.  Leopoldo Proal Bustos, federal delegate of the Interior Ministry and coordinator of federal delegates in the state,  urged delegates and mayors, to continue working in harmony and coordination to yield good results to the citizens.

Agapito Sanchez Magana thanked the head of the Commission for the Regularization of Land Tenure, Adriano Trejo Encinas, for his dedication to providing legal deed for the property of the citizens of Rancho Viejo.

He also thanked the National Water Commission for the documents being processed to facilitate the important project of bringing tap water to the colonias in Rancho Viejo.(on the mainland).       The mayor also spoke about the new hospital in Isla Mujeres, saying it is a monumental work in terms of the modern building and the services provided. Regarding public health, on behalf of all ISSSTE insurance beneficiaries, he requested improvements in care and services at the island's local clinic.

Regarding the sensitive subject of the Whale Sharks, the Mayor asked the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation for "el cambio de boyado" (I think this means the installation of buoys?)  to provide greater and more effective protection for one of the most important and emblematic marine species in the waters surrounding Isla Mujeres.

The first working meeting between mayors and federal delegates of the year of 2016 is a continuation of the meetings which were previously held in Isla Mujeres, Lazaro Cardenas, Cozumel, and Tulum. The first working meeting of this kind was held in 2015 and the most recent was held in Punta Sam in the municipality of Isla Mujeres.

The main objective of this meeting was to maintain close communication and collaboration in order to realize the agreements reached at previous meetings.

The work of installing traffic signs continues around the island with the goal of providing security and safety for pedestrians and motorists alike.

Navy rescues 6 people aboard a trimaran 40 miles north of Holbox

http://www.tvislamujeres.com.mx/…/armada-de-mexico-rescata…/

The Navy rescued six persons (four foreigners and two Mexicans) aboard the trimaran "Fearless", approximately 40 kilometers north of Holbox, after a report was received at 5:05pm. The trimaran had activated its emergency alarm, because their rudder had become detached, and the Navy dispatched an Ocean Patrol vessel to locate them. They were found at 12:45am aboard a Zodiac boat, and their trimaran had sunk, so they were taken aboard the Naval vessel.
They were transported to the Naval pier in Isla Mujeres, given a medical examination, and then would be turned over to the Migration officials to review their documents, while at all times respecting their human rights.
This information was supplied by the Naval Department with the explanation that these actions are in compliance with the laws conferring responsibilities upon the Navy regarding the safeguarding and saving of lives at sea.
