Rapid response by CFE to possible malfunction in the underwater cable
Rápida respuesta de la CFE
A desperfecto en cable submarino
Lanrry PARRAISLA MUJERES, 23 de septiembre.-
There are indications that there could be a flaw in underwater cable that supplies electricity to the island, because nearby workers say there was a small explosion on Saturday morning, which emitted black smoke and left a small crater. They said that after this event, electric shocks were produced which affected tourists walking through the area. The end of the underwater cable, which is located at the northern part of Isla Mujeres, was revised months ago by CFE (Federal Electrical Commission) employees, and the Director of the CFE said the damage was repaired.
It was a citizen's report which alerted the CFE to the damage at the area of the beach where the underwater cable ends, and CFE employees came to the area to check for leakage of electricity with a power detector, but as of Wednesday morning, there were no positive results. According the the CFE employees, at the point referred to, there are unused cables buried, which have no electricity. They said they would return with more sophisticated equipment to verify that there is no electricity which could endanger people walking thru the area.

CFE monitors underwater cable

Following a citizen complaint of a strange occurance in the area of beach where the underwater electrical cable is located, the CFE (Federal Electrical Commission) sent personnel to check for an electrical leakage, but as of this morning, had found none. However, employees working at Nautibeach and for Carlos Cervera Peraza said that on Saturday morning there was a small explosion on the beach, which emitted smoke and created a small crater, and that afterwards, tourists crossing the area were feeling an electrical tingling.
However, the CFE brought a current meter and found no irregularities at that point, nor at the connection of the cable. They said there are unused lines buried at that spot, which have no electrical current to them. They demonstrated that their current meter was working by taking it to an electrical outlet at ChiChi's restaurant, and said they would return with more sophisticated equipment. They said they would also conduct an excavation at that time.
A representative of ChiChi's restaurant, Rodolfo Moreno, said on Tuesday there were several tourists who felt the electrical 'activity' on the beach and they advised the Civil Protection staff who patrol the beach, and the Tourist Police. A police officer confirmed this account and said the CFE was advised conduct an inspection, and the local manager of the CFE, Orlando Roque said the problem was repaired.

Hi all!! We (Isla Animals) are gearing up for a HUGE Spay/Neuter, Vaccination, Wellness campaign for the animals in Rancho Viejo Nov 17-22. This is a very poor area in the municipality of Isla Mujeres. Most are living without electricity and running water. The situation for the animals there is dire right now with parvo & distemper running rampant, and heavy overpopulation. We expect to treat/vaccinate/spay/neuter 1000 cats & dogs with the cost of surgery at just $10us per dog. This may be the only time any of these animals see a vet. We can treat the existing animals, vaccinate others against disease, curb the population growth, and educate pet owners on proper animal care and make a HUGE DIFFERENCE!! We have the knowledge, experience, volunteers, and heart to make it happen. We are asking for all of your help to raise funds to make the campaign a reality. (We can also accept Paypal donations via our site islaanimals.org - just add RANCHO VIEJO in message, and cash in person on Isla Mujeres. Please, please share the link on your social media. It helps us so much. If you are not in a position to donate PLEASE do read the campaign & share, there is lots of excellent info in it about the work we do-There is always so much to do! Thank you for your time! http://www.gofundme.com/isla-animals-rv
