After some parents complained about a middle school teacher at "Benito Juarez" , the Deputy Inspectorate of the
Human Rights Commission of the State of Quintana Roo (CDHeQROO) in Isla
Mujeres opened an official complaint for the case, and the Coordinación de Servicios Educativos of the Northern Zone of the state will be involved.

FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL: AGAPITO MAGANA SANCHEZ, TWO YEARS AFTER HIS ELECTORAL VICTORY
The Mayor recalled some of the accomplishments of his administration. He said, "We do not work for the next election; we work for the next generation. Our vision is not for just three years, our actions are designed to benefit families for a future with opportunities and stability for everyone in the municipality." Two certifications of quality have been achieved: the Blue Flag award for Playa Centro and the White Flag award for North Beach, which should assure the arrival of more high-end tourism, with consideration for the future to continue competing with other locations in the Caribbean and around the world. Providing sports facilities for both the island and the Continental Zone focuses on the present and on a healthy future for the children and youth, with a commitment by this administration toward the health and welfare of future generations, with sports as a good method.
For the first time in history, academic and ferry transport scholarships have been given to all the eligible students in the municipality, with the investment for this excellent social project coming entirely from municipal resources.
Another commitment to education by this administration for the children and youth of the municipality was the delivery of school supplies, uniforms and school shoes during the recently completed school year, for all the students in all the schools.
This administration has been involved is the 'regularization' (deeding) of land in Ranch Viejo, in the Continental Zone of the municipality, to give families legal rights to the land upon which they live, where they have invested their savings, in coordination with the state and federal governments. The long process of delivering the deeds is about to conclude, which was Promise #170 by President Enrique Peña Nieto, to the citizens of Rancho Viejo.
Mayor Agapito Magaña concluded, "Every month, every week and every day of this administration, is a unique and unrepeatable opportunity to make our mark on our beloved town, and our commitment does not end on the last day of this three-year period, our commitment is forever because we are here for the best thing that we have: our families. "

On Monday night, after 11pm, residents near the Salina Grande walking path called police when they witnessed an assault on Enrique Ortega Rodríguez by a group of youths, around 14 years old, who allegedly hit him with sticks and stones. When police arrived, the attack was over.
Señor Ortega Rodríguez explained that his son, who is also a minor, had un roce (a brush?) with this group and he decided to go talk to one of the parents of the teens to sort it out, but when he went out, there was a group of thirty youngsters two blocks away who threatened him.

There could be a potential conflict over the boundary between Isla Mujeres and Lazaro Cardenas, because the lighthouse at Cabo Catoche, which marks the boundary between the two municipalities, was rebuilt and relocated several meters away from its original location. It was affected by erosion and the ravages of time, and 2013, the lighthouse collapsed after enduring strong northern winds up to 90 kilometers per hour..
The lighthouse was built by an insurance company contracted by the Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) with an investment of more than five million pesos. It was completed and 'delivered' to the SCT in March. 2015, in the presence of Port Authorities (API) and the officials of the municipality of Lazaro Cardenas, however, no authorities from Isla Mujeres were invited to the event. This project was handled by the SCT, who did not involve Isla Mujeres in the rebuilding of the Cabo Catoche lighthouse, and apparently its original location was not respected, which could lead to problems later with the municipality of Lazaro Cardenas. The measurement error was discovered when Mayor Agapito Magana Sanchez paid a visit to Cabo Catoche and realized that apparently the new lighthouse was moved several meters from its original location. This means that now, when the line is drawn from that lighthouse to El Meco, which is the territorial boundary of Isla Mujeres, (as stated in the Constitution of Quintana Roo), Isla Mujeres would automatically lose hundreds of acres to Lazaro Cardenas. This is why it is urgent to correct what is considered to be an unintentional mistake. In a brief interview, Mayor Magaña Sanchez confirmed that he did indeed find out that the lighthouse was rebuilt several meters away from the site where it had been located for 80 years and why it was not rebuilt on the original point has not been explained, but it has the potential to cause a conflict about the boundary between the two municipalities. He said that earlier this month he sent a letter to the INEGI requesting the support of the Institute to verify the measurements, and if it is found that it was actually moved from its original location, actions should be taken to avoid a conflict about the boundary between Isla Mujeres and Lazaro Cardenas.

The Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) from Cancun were in Isla Mujeres taking photos and recording video for a promotional documentary titled "Promotion of the destination 360" “Promoción del destino 360° featuring the natural beauty of the island and its attractions. in hopes of increasing hotel occupancy in the upcoming winter season. This was explained by the municipal Director of Tourism, Gustavo Rodríguez Orozco, who also mentioned that last week the TV company "Veracidad" filmed a promotional video on the island that will air on different TV channels, both domestic and abroad, and will assist the work being done to publicize Isla Mujeres internationally.
The staff of the OVC took pictures of the interiors of the most iconic hotels, of the beaches and generally of all the services offered in the destination. They finished their day at one of the restaurants of Isla Mujeres with a tasting of the traditional fish dish of ti-kin-xic, one of the typical dishes of the island. The Tourism Director explained, "The OVC is focused on the promotion of Isla Mujeres with videos, photos and aerial shots will undoubtedly enhance our destination. This work was previously done by the Trust for Tourism Promotion of Isla Mujeres, (Fideicomiso de Promoción Turística) but when that agency was discontinued, the job of promoting Isla Mujeres to improve hotel occupancy and make more people aware of the island became the responsibility of the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Cancun."
Sr. Rodriguez Orozco also announced that the OVC printed a new, updated brochure about Isla Mujeres, including a directory of hotels, of services, of restaurants, of golf carts rental agencies, and of available services, in order for tourists to easily choose for themselves the activities they prefer during their stay, whether it is overnight or just for a few hours.He said this is a comprehensive brochure that gives visitors many fun possibilities, on land and sea, featuring Garrafón Park with its the sculpture park, Mundaca, El Meco, Cave of the Sleeping Sharks, Manchones Reef , El Farito and the Cross of the Bay. It has information about places to shop, nightlife, dining, boating, fishing, snorkeling & diving, golf carts, and offers a detailed list of hotels, a complete directory of services, of golf cart rental agencies, and of restaurants.

Surprising influx of tourism

Many visitors were at the beach, both domestic and foreign tourists, including many women in skimpy bikinis laying on towels working on their tan, with excellent weather for this and average temperatures of nearly 39 degrees Celsius, making the water very appealing.
The lancheros who offer boat tours to el Farito, Manchones, or the underwater museum (MUSA) said many potential customers buy tours over in Puerto Juarez, which considerably reduces the demand for their services. Boat owners who offer whale shark tours said they are unable to meet the demand, because of this year's Management Plan which limits them to working on alternate days. They said that ultimately they can't complain because now larger groups of whale sharks have begun to appear, when there less than 20 whale sharks in the tour area two weeks ago. Every year, July and August are the best month, especially as far as demand is concerned, when hundreds of visitors flock to Isla Mujeres and Holbox, specifically to enjoy these giant creatures and have the opportunity to swim with them, when they return to these waters year after year.
