The first Concurso de Canto Urbano Libre, rap contest, was a success, and the first place winner was Saulo Pastrana. It was organized by the municipal DIF, social service agency, in coordination with the Commission for Gender Equality and the City Council. It took place on June 25, at the green dome in colonia Salina Chica where ten talented young people composed original songs against the mistreatment of women, which were enjoyed by their family and friends.

A multidisciplinary group conducted a monitoring visit of an average day at the Family Medical Unit of the ISSSTE, Institute of Social Security and Services for State Workers, to verify its needs in the areas of administration of Human Resources, Material Resources, and the Medical Area. They will conduct a step by step analysis to improve the quality of care.
The Subdelegado Médico of the ISSSTE of Quintana Roo, Martin Perales Martinez, said that this is part of a process of continuous improvement, and one of the most pressing needs has been the supply of drugs. He said the medical units of the ISSSTE of Quintana Roo have a supply of medicines that is at 98 percent and in some cases at 100 percent, following intensive work to analyze the needs according to consultations, the patients, and the medical attention that is given.
They are also analyzing the hours of operation, with morning and evening shifts, according to the number of beneficiaries served by each Medical Unit. They are also analyzing productivity in regard to any needs for building expansion, depending on the number of beneficiaries who receive service, and whether a larger building is needed. Currently there are areas for the pharmacy, filing, and consultations.

For the second consecutive day, the Mayor Agapito Magaña Sanchez, in his capacity as chairman of the Clean Beaches Committee of Cancun-Riviera Maya, participated in the XI National Clean Beaches Meeting with the aim of finding actions that will give results for the Organization for the Management of Beaches.

The health of island families is a priority for this government; following the guidelines at a State Level, we began a mega-campaign of nebulization in order to avoid diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.

Thursday, through the municipal Department of Health, the City gave the green light to start a campaign of ongoing nebulization against dengue: "Say No to Mosquitoes", because the health of the population is a priority for this administration.

Isla Mujeres Harbor Master Ismael Gonzalez Gil said excellent weather is expected for the Second Grand Women's Fishing Tournament, "La Dorada" where at least 50 boats are expected to participate. The Captains' dinner was held last evening at the Parador of Punta Sur. The starting horn for the boats is scheduled for 8am. The scales for weighing in will close at 4pm, and the awards will be given out at 6pm, on the concrete pier (by the whale shark statue).
According to the weather service, cloudy weather is expected this weekend, so it is possible that rainfall could occur on the island, but the Harbor Master insisted that weather conditions should be favorable for a successful fishing tournament. -

After nearly two weeks of heavy rains, some homes remain flooded in the area of colonia Santa Rosa, near the lower part of "Devil's Curve". Residents of the area are concerned about the puddles causing the proliferation of mosquitoes, and the risk of dengue.
They explained they lack basic services like water and electricity because of the legal situation of the land. Several homes have been built in recent months, and the area is still under dispute. They say the lack of other places to live requires them to continue to take this risk.
There is a church nearby where nearly 80 people gather nightly, and many are bothered by mosquitoes.

More whale sharks arrive

On Friday, there was the first signs of the massive arrival of whale sharks in the area know as Agua Azules, which is administered by the DGVS (Wildlife Department). In recent days, about eight whale sharks were seen in the area, as opposed to previously when the licensees complained they were seeing only one or two daily in a remote area 50-60 nautical miles away, near Cabo Catoche, within the Whale Shark Biosphere (also known as Aguas Verdes).
Around noon, several boats returned with happy licensees because their customers had been swimming with several whale sharks, unlike other days then the boats were returning at sunset. It is presumed that from now until the end of August, there will be dozens of them present daily at a single spot.
It is known that when there are whale sharks spending time less than 30 miles north of Isla Mujeres, they often come to the vicinity of this port, therefore some conservationists have requested that the perimeter of the Biosphere should be extended to the southern part of the island, which would double the area of the Reserve, from ~140,000 hectares to 300,000 hectares.
At the time this was proposed, it was supported by the former Director of the Biosphere, Francisco Remolina, but the idea was quickly abandoned, allegedly due to pressure from the licensees, ferries, and marinas/boaters of Cancun, (los permisionarios, navieras y marinas de Cancún) with concerns that advantage would be taken of the circumstance of being operated by the DGVS, without inspection or monitoring of the area. The DGVS has been silent and has not answered the arguments of the licensees who have publicly rejected the 2015 Management Plan that was published in April, in an atmosphere of anger from those affected, in spite of their offer of communication between the parties.
State funds for the rehabilitation of two public mercados in Isla Mujeres

Funds from the state government of Quintana Roo are financing the renovation of both sides of the parking area of the downtown mercado "Javier Rojo Gomez", after persistent complaints by the tenants. The roof of the market was also treated and waterproofed, there was work on the bathrooms, and it just lacks general painting before it will be in optimal condition for summer tourism, which is about to begin. Rafael Garcia Velazquez, representative of the tenants, commented that he had made several efforts to get these issues addressed in order to reactivate the commercial center, with a new appearance and adequate signage downtown so that visitors can find the market.
While the state government is improving this market, the mercado "Magana Audomaro" in colonia Canotal is in need of final details, six years after its construction, and needs general maintenance, attention to the bathroom, and overall painting to appear more attractive. The tenants want proper signage at the southern Rueda Medina malecon/avenue, so visitors will come to the market to buy produce and groceries.
Sr Garcia said the investment in maintenance and improvements to the image of these two markets is a good option to compete with the chain stores that have arrived to the island, and caused the vendor's sales to decline, and they have not yet recovered.

MORENA presents project to decrease unemployment

The new municipal leader of MORENA, the Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional (National Regeneration Movement) political party spoke about their plan to reduce the problem of unemployment among youth, accompanied by the outgoing leader, Luis Venegas Martinez. The new leader noted they are already working to meet the needs of other sectors including the elderly, single mothers, young people, and to address the problems of the fishermen. He thanked those who voted for him last weekend, when he became leader of the municipality's third political group. The MORENA office is on Candelero Street, in colonia Canotal, about 50 meters from the Blue Dome.
