Leer más...As part of the activities for Día internacional de la Discapacidad”, a breakfast was held for Islanders with disabilities at the Senior Citizen facilities. It was hosted by the president of the DIF social service agency, Marthy Vargas, who said this administration is an inclusive government, seeking to meet the needs of all residents. She said there are about 200 people on the island with disabilities, and we should pay particular attention to their needs.
She said they plan to have a program to adapt parks and public areas with ramps to allow access for people with limited mobility, beginning with ramps at accesses and bathrooms. As president of the DIF, she gave away two wheelchairs to don Alfonso Rodríguez Hernández and to doña Hilda Noemí Canul Pacheco. From the State DIF agency, they gave away blankets, which is part of the program “Abrigando Familias con Amor”, which seeks to assist people at risk to cope with the low temperature of the winter season. At the breakfast event, in addition to the items given away and the meal, there was singing and dancing, and an exhibition of the artistic skills of some of the participants. In front of the building visitors could see the two vehicles from the state DIF that are adapted to transport people with disabilities, which brought the attendees.

Leer más...The municipal Week of Environmental Conservation began today at Mundaca Hacienda, with events coordinated by the city Department of Ecology, whose director is Cristina Medina Figueroa. The activities are aimed at raising awareness about cleanliness and caring for the environment. The message is aimed at all inhabitants of the municipality, and in particular to the children and young people who bear the responsibility of preserving the planet.
Annually, Dec. 3 is World Day of No Pesticide Use, which aims to draw attention to the serious environmental crisis caused by the global use of agrochemicals, which is why this date was chosen to motivate people to become more ecologically aware.
The week began with the municipal officials and directors making a commitment to involve their staff and families, and with a campaign of junk removal in various colonias, beginning today with La Gloria and Amplification La Gloria, and Monday they will visit Salina Grande and Salina Chica and Caridad del Cobre. You are encouraged to get rid of your unused household appliances between today and December 13, when they will be transported for special treatment, because of the contaminants in their components.
There was also an agreement made to take 2400 liters of used oil to be recycled into biodiesel. Today was the reading of stories and selection of winners among children whose topic was "Writing a story about nature and the environment. The winners names are given in the article, and their awards will be presented at the town square on Friday at 2pm. After the stories are reviewed and corrected, they will be published as an anthology.
On Wednesday there will be a conference & exhibition by biologist Roberto Ibarra about cultivating coral. Thursday there will be a workshop on recycling, whose participants include Dolphin Discovery and Amigos de Isla Contoy.
The week will close with an intensive cleaning of Salina Grande by residents of the colonia, members of the Navy, city officials, and personnel from various companies on the island.

ZAPATOS PARA LOS NINOS Shoes for the Children Annual Christmas Party and Shoe Drive
December is here, and we are collecting shoes and donations for our annual Christmas Party and shoe delivery. Last year every child that came for shoes walked away with a new pair for Christmas!
This is the one time of year we only collect new shoes in order to make each child feel extra special.
Not only do we distribute shoes, but we join with the local community to provide a meal and a small gift. It is a special event, as for some of the children, it will be their only Christmas gift. They are already looking forward to it on December 24th.

This
is Cappucino, a beautiful one year old doggie (about 20 pounds). I have
yet to hear him bark. He loves to sit on your lap & just cuddle. He
started appearing at our house about a month ago. Apparently, his
family had a baby & decided they didn't want to care for him
anymore. He is wonderful with my kids & I know he would be wonderful
with their baby but they told me they just don't want him anymore. Our
new Mayor, just recently had a town meeting in our park. A big issue was
the dogs roaming the park. We suspected that would be the case. We took
Cappucino to our house & have him in the side yard with a roof so
he is out of the rain. He has a bed, water, food & toys. Our Isla
rescue, Clienta is 13 years old & has always been a loner. She is
very upset about our new "house guest". The kids have been especially
lovey with Clienta so her feelings aren't so hurt. Alison is packed at
her house so Cappucino will remain with us until we can find his forever
family. If anyone is interested in adopting this love bug, please

remember if you live on the Island, you are not a true local until you
have adopted an Island dog!!!

- Tiffany Yenawine Wareing Andrea Brown, he has gotten past the pneumonia but not gaining weight as quickly as I would like. I just had blood work done everything looks good but he is anemic. So we are giving him vitamins & feeding him several times a day. He sure is wagging his skinny butt & tail a lot! I will keep you posted!
Tiffany Yenawine Wareing Just to keep everybody up to date Cappuccino is now doing great. He no longer has worms which were basically starving him to death & he is free of the pneumonia. He is full of beans like any 10 month old pup playing with toys & wiggling his butt around. He is eating like a champ. Absolutely loves Frittatas with chorizo, spinach (helping his anemia) & cheese. I am giving him dog food every day too! He runs daily in the park with Barlow on a leash. We have yet to hear him bark?! If I had a working Camera I would take some pictures. He looks great & once we get more meat on his bones, we will get him neutered. Barlow tells him every night before bedtime that soon he will have a forever family with a nice big bed & lots of toys & hopefully, a brother as great as him!
