Health Committee inaugurated for better coordination of services
Instalan Comité de Salud
Miércoles, 04 de Diciembre de 2013 22:07
Apuestan a trabajo coordinado permanente por la población
Lanrry PARRA
ISLA MUJERES, 4 de diciembre.-.
The Comité de Seguridad en Salud
Municipal was created to coordinate work between public organizations
and private & social institutions to prevent, address, rehabilitate,
and investigate public health problems. Since this administration took
office, the green light has been given to spraying campaigns and trash
removal, to prevent the proliferation of insects.
The municipal Director of Health, Tharin Sadat Vital Casique, said this
committee will identify and evaluate policies, strategies, and actions,
especially in the case of epidemiological emergencies, to ensure a
prompt and effective response, to keep the community of Isla Mujeres
safe and healthy.
One of their
tasks will be to create awareness among island families of the
importance of keeping yards and patios free of items where water can
collect, like pots and tires. Therefore it is important for officials to
offer campaigns of junk removal to prevent accumulation of water where
mosquitoes can breed. "Isla Mujeres is the municipality with the least
cases of dengue, and no deaths, and this is a commendable endeavor to
maintain this situation," said the Director.25% Property tax discount is popular & clerks are busy taking payments

Trash problem being broadcast on social networks
Difunden el problema de la basura en redes sociales [+] Ver mas
Residents have used photos and comments on social networks and Whatsapp messaging platform to voice complaints about the need for improved garbage collection service. There are bags of trash near streetlights left and forgotten by residents. The problem is complicated by the garbage trucks that have been in poor repair since before this administration began, so the collection schedule has not been maintained. The problem occurs in the most inhabited ares of Isla Mujeres; in downtown and in the colonias of La Gloria and Salinas. The discontent of the residents is being expressed through social networks and messaging platforms, to get the attention of municipal officials.
Installation of buoys to delineate the swimming area for safety
Instalan boyas para delimitar la zona de bañistas a fin de garantizar su seguridad [+] Ver mas
A few days before the start of the winter vacation season, the Civil Protection agency installed bouys to delineate the swimming area, in order to prevent accidents. They began on Monday with the area know as Media Luna, where the highest number of accidents have occurred by drowning. They will place informational signs, in two or three languages, to advise where swimming is prohibited and where it is safe. There will be buoys installed covering a distance of about a mile (~1.5 km), with each buoy about 150 meters apart. This will include North Beach and the Posada beach, because they are the most popular beaches for tourists.
Successful control and recovery of spilled diesel in a marine environment (A Simulation)
Controlan y recolectan con éxito el derrame de diesel al medio marino [+] Ver mas
On Tuesday, from 10am to 1pm, the Navy conducted a simulation of an oil spill, by a passenger vessel sailing from Puerto Juarez to Isla Mujeres, having lost its navigation struck the el Farito reef, and hypothetically spilt 5000 liters of diesel into the marine environments.
During the exercise the Navy ordered a concentration of their smaller boats to the scene to control and collect the oil spill, using an oil containment 'barerra', and the activity was a success. This exercise included coordination of various agencies, and was successful in that respect also. It included staff from other federal agencies, and from the municipal Civil Protection departments of Isla Mujeres and Benito Juarez (Cancun).

ZAPATOS PARA LOS NINOS Shoes for the Children Annual Christmas Party and Shoe Drive
December is here, and we are collecting shoes and donations for our annual Christmas Party and shoe delivery. Last year every child that came for shoes walked away with a new pair for Christmas!
This is the one time of year we only collect new shoes in order to make each child feel extra special.
Not only do we distribute shoes, but we join with the local community to provide a meal and a small gift. It is a special event, as for some of the children, it will be their only Christmas gift. They are already looking forward to it on December 24th.
If you would like to donate shoes, please contact Greg Snider at: bullridersnider@yahoo.com
If you would like to contribute monies so we can purchase shoes, food, or small toys, please also contact Greg at the email address above or go to our website for Pay Pal http://www.islazapatos.blogspot.mx/
We will happily send you photos of the children who receive your gifts. As you can see they come dressed in their best to celebrate!May God richly bless you this Christmas Season with the “wonders of His love”.

- Jan Carpenter Told ya!
Janet Bonebright Cummins They are excellent! Wonderful customer service.
Kallie Frykman Sherer What do they charge for round trip transport?
Jan Carpenter Herre is the info, $60 RT and worth every penny of that.http://www.cancunandrivieramaya.com/.../isla-mujeres...
Evelyn Blum I'm useing carm too!
Devitt Rogers not exactly cheap..
Evelyn Blum thats 30 dollars each way. its a 30 minute ride from the airport ot the ferry. there are three people in the car. It cost me that much to get from my airport in minneapolis to my south minneapolis residence and I live 10 minutes away.
Jackie Conlon My experience is cheap does not necessarily equal better. I gave up on Best Day, one of the cheaper shuttles when they had not shown up at the ferry to pick me up when I had to rebook my flight home due to an emergency health situation with my daughter. That was the 4th time they screwed up my reservation and the final time for me. CARM is not the highest priced shuttle and I have only heard very good things about the company. To put it into perspective like Evelyn did, for me an early morning or late night drive to the airport takes about 15 minutes and cost me $40 one way plus a tip.
Marie C Queenton I never had a problem with BestDay but my last trip my transport was in a soaking wet van that reeked of humidity. I also notice the waiting time before they actually get going at the airport gets longer and longer each trip....
Jan Carpenter After being almost stranded once by Bestday and almost missing a flight another time...never Bestday again. And it is all in what you want to pay I guess, CARM is actually less than several other companies and the service is impeccable.
Jennifer Kelly I stopped using Best Day too. Three strikes and you're out! I'm now using Felipe Alvarez who I just LOVE!
Jackie Conlon Jennifer, Who is Felipe? I use AGI and have been extremely pleased with them. I have gotten a couple of free rides and Christmas gifts from the owner Javier.
Jennifer Kelly I have no idea who recommended him to me but he is prompt, nice vehicles, responds quickly and adapts well to all my changes and requests. His email addy is felialvare@yahoo.com.mx
He is $25 one way.
Started using him after Best Day screwed me over a few times. Have been very pleased.
Josie Girardin We have been using WeGoMexico for a few years now. Always on time. Very reasonable rates. Friendly staff. Clean large van. www.wegomexico.com
Laura McFarlin Awesome, I just used them too perfecto! Carm that is!
