Lobster production remains unstable
Continúa inestable la captura de langosta[+] Ver mas
Fishermen report they are currently having a difficult time finding lobster and very few of the crustaceans are being captured in their traps and nets. They are having difficulty meeting their expenses and paying their bills.
In October and November the five cooperatives gathered about ten tonnes of live lobster, and about four tonnes of tails. During this period last year they captured five tonnes of live lobster and at most 1.5 tonnes of tails. This represents a significant increase.
Although production has been poor in recent weeks, some cooperatives do have a stock of live lobster on hand, but it is difficult to find buyers, because most restaurants and hotels prefer tails.
They are hoping that the bad weather predicted for this weekend will bring the better luck, and increase production. (The nortes can cause the lobsters to emerge and gather together, and walk along the bottom in groups)
Currently the live lobster are selling for 180-200 pesos/kilogram and the tails are 380-400 pesos. The live lobsters are exported to other countries like Spain, Canada, China, and Japan, and it is noted that there is very little demand for them in Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, and Cozumel, where the tails are preferred.
Fee for Hyperbaric Chamber increasing
Visible aumento de cuota a la cámara hiperbárica[+] Ver mas
This has the same info already translated about a possible increase in fees for the fishermen who are members of the local cooperatives, and it is noted that the five percent increase in the VAT (value added tax) in border areas will drive up the costs of parts and supplies, especially oxygen, which may require an increase in fees.
Commemoration of Naval Day
Conmemoración del Día de la Armada[+] Ver mas
Commendations were given to members of the Navy who had served 35, 30, 25, 20, 15, and 10 years. The child Rigoberto Pavón Montejo was name as an honorary marino and given an award by the Admiral. After the official ceremony, the group moved to the Naval Pier where there was a tent and chairs to watch the demonstrations of tactical exercises.
In the first simulated rescue, there were two people who played the role of hostages being held in a house by five members of organized crime, . They were rescued by a tactical Naval group, who landed stealthily after a reconnaissance with a group of divers who had reached the land.
Then there was a (mock) radio call about a boat carrying two kidnapped businessmen heading for Isla Mujeres, who were thrown overboard, and rescued by the tactical group. The kidnappers boat was intercepted and its crew was captured. The event was closed with a flourish when all the units participating marched and paraded before the civilians and the officials.
Doctor suspended
Médico suspendido por negligenciaVer mas
According to a statement issued by the Assistant Director for the State Health Services Department, Ariel López Herrera, they are investigating whether there was any negligence in the case of the pregnant woman who gave birth in a public street. Doctor José Delfino Tenorio Domínguez has been suspended while the investigation is determining whether there was any negligence on his part.
On November 21, Nitzia Xiomara Chan Cruz went to the General Hospital and was examined by the doctor. She was told she was not dilated, and was advised to walk and return to the clinic at 9am. She returned to her home at 2am, but at 3:30am her pains had intensified and her water broke, and she wanted to return to the hospital. She was unable to make it and gave birth in front of the Hotel Kinich Nah, whose employee Domingo Chan Pech, brought her towels and linens.
It is noted that less than a year ago this doctor was involved in a similar incident, and in that event the mother who was sent home was a minor who gave birth at the Church of Immaculate Conception's parish house.

We are on the east coast...this is looking southward
Northward, Punta norte is in the distance
Yesterday, we stopped by Soggy Peso for a beer, & I shot this sunset, on the way to Iguanas, where we enjoyed the band and the tasty ribs. There was a lively crowd of friends, acquaintances, & other customers. (Friday was also a lotta fun at Iguanas, with live music from Cuba & Veracruz....which led to the Latinas & Norteamericanas swapping dance moves. Iguanas is at Marina Paraiso, just south of the Soggy Peso, and north of Seso Loco.)
