On Friday the search for fisherman José Ernesto Zapata Cutz, who fell overboard while working, was cancelled after more than seven days of patrolling the Caribbean sea without result. The family has given up hope that he is alive, and are awaiting the official documents that will allow them to obtain insurance benefits for his family.
Good week for nautical tour providers
Buena semana para los turisteros+] Ver mas
Although October is considered one of the slowest months of the year, the nautical tourism providers have reported an improvement in demand for their services, in this good weather. Their prices range from 250 pesos (per person) for a four hour boat ride, and reach up to 500 pesos per person when including food and different activities like snorkeling and fishing. The less expensive tours consist only of a boat ride and a swim in a permitted area, while the other tours can include swimming with nurse sharks and traditional dishes like tikin xic. These services are currently being used by people from Cancun who go to Puerto Juarez to book the tours, and for now costs are being kept low. The rates usually rise 15 percent in high season, and people who return often use the same agency or cooperative. (Whenever I hear or read "a four hour tour", the theme to Gilligan's Island plays in my head.)

(Their names are given in the TVIM headlines. I think the seventh Council member is usually the opposing candidate for Mayor, but Alicia appears to have declined the position in favor of continuing on as a member of Congress in Mexico City, so this would be the alternate..)
