Awaiting resources for Tourism agency
The new director of Tourism, Carmelina Martinez Hamed, said once the new manager of the Tourism Promotion department is appointed, there will be a request made to process an allocation of a little over 300,000 pesos that is designated for the maintenance of two sculptures and for promotional material. Due to the change of administration, it was difficult to implement a short term plan. Currently they are reorganizing the department, and working with the money allotted for the year of 2012. The official explained that there is a little over 2.5 million pesos from the 3 percent hotel tax that is assigned to the Tourism Promotion department, which will be assigned to the 7 items approved by the Promotion Committee. In the budget are plans to renovate the signs to Mundaca and to the Tortugranja, anf for the rehabilitation of the Punta Sur sculptures of Ixchel and of an iguana. In addition are the map brochures, and the construction of a small palapa at the Tortugranja.

Search for "Soyita" suspended
Suspenderán la búsqueda de “Soyita”+] Ver mas
The search for fisherman José Ernesto Zapata Cutz,30, has been unsuccessful and appears to be abandoned. He fell from the shrimp boat "Marengo" on Wednesday night, Oct 2, whose owner is Sergio Candelario Rosado Pat. The boat owner also owns the locally well-known seafood distribution company "Caribbean Gump" in Puerto Juarez, and has declined to give interviews with the media. The family members only commented that the company had come to an agreement with them so the beneficiaries of the seaman's insurance will be paid.
Human protection helps turtles multiply
The turtle releases are the last step in the Turtle Management plan which begins with the monitoring of the nesting beaches to protect the species, then continues with the transfer of the eggs to the Tortugranja facilities where they are protected from predators while awaiting hatching. The newborn turtles are protected for some days, and the final step is the liberation of the hatchlings. Children are included in the releases to help them learn a love of nature and respect of all the inhabitants of the planet.

UPCOMING EVENTS
In October there are occasional releases of baby turtles that were incubated at the Tortugranja, at dusk on the eastern beaches of Media Luna or Guadalupana. The Blue Crabs migrate with the full moons, and there are usually organized groups to help them safely across the roads. Watch out for them in Sac Bajo and along the southeastern part of the island. The American holiday of Halloween is observed by the expats & a few candy loving kids, while the whole community observes Day of the Dead on November 1st & 2nd. Special foods are available in the weeks before, and Hanal Pixan altars appear in mid or late October. The last couple years there were altar competitions on the Town Square, and an altar in the Town Hall, and in many businesses and homes.
