Agencies Team Up To Repair Pumps & Avoid Damage
Residents living on the edge of the lakes are annoyed with the Civil Protection Department because the pumps were not turned on earlier, and many were concerned about losing their belongings. After Aguakan staff helped repair the pumps, and with the support of CAPA, they began working at full capacity, The Mayor oversaw the work, and levels began dropping and problems were averted. Kids Spot Young Croc In La Gloria Street: Returned To Mundaca
Apparently the heavy rains facilitated the escape of a young crocodile from its habitat in the lagoon area of the Hacienda Mundaca. It was over a meter long (>~3 feet) and reached a main street in La Gloria, some meters from the area of the fair of the Catholic Church, Sacred Heart of Jesus. At ~9pm on Tuesday, a dozen children caused an uproar when they spied the crocodile quietly walking along in water accumulated on the road. The rains must have caused the levels to exceed the concrete barrier that surrounds the area of these reptiles at Mundaca. Taxi drivers reported it to the local police, who reported it to Civil Protection, whose staff was given the task of returning it to its habitat. Electrical Line Repairs
Workers with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) have been seen in various communities around the island making repairs to damage from wind and rain in La Gloria, Canotal, and downtown, using a "cherry picker" truck. It is noted that the level of water in the baseball stadium did not seem to be dropping, but with the assistance of three extraction pumps from Aguakan, the levels were dropping in the lake called Salinas, and water levels are expected to continue dropping in upcoming hours. Navy Offers Assistance: Not Needed
The Navy applied its "Marina Plan" which consisted of having patrols touring the most vulnerable areas of the island. The previous day they began tours to assist the population after more than 76 hours of rain. The armed sailors where seen walking in La Guadalupania, which is one of the poorest neighborhood on the island, where people live in homes made of plywood, cardboard, and boards. The sailors met with residents to provide any required assistance, but none was needed. Since the forecast called for rain for the next 24 hours, they advised people to refrain from leaving their houses when possible, since moderate to heavy rainfall was expected. It was learned unofficially that the sailors will continue doing patrols around the streets of the island. It is recommended that people do not set their trash out in the streets because this is the cause of many of the storm drains becoming clogged, which causes flooding. Source Respuesta/Jesus Molina
Fishermen & Tour Boats Not Making Money
Rains again "made the rounds" in Isla Mujeres, affecting the nautical service providers and the fishermen. Some of the boats that were moored at docks became semi-submerged on Wednesday morning, and some were removed to the beach, and many worked removing sand and water, including about 8 fishermen who rescued a boat that was completely submerged. Fishermen and nautical tourism providers have suffered economically from being off duty for 4 consecutive days, and hope that the weather will allow the port to open on Thursday. Source: Por Esto
10% Increase In Respiratory Complaints
Last week, with changes in temperatures before the rains, there was a 10 percent increase in respiratory complaints at the General Hospital, mainly in children under five years of age. The Director noted that this is a normal increase when there is bad or changing weather, adding that in general a majority of the patients they see are coming in with respiratory or diarrheal disorders. He said it is important to treat respiratory illnesses in a timely fashion to prevent pneumonia. He said that ideally residents should avoid going out in the rain and should stay in their homes. He recommended they avoid food of dubious quality or items that are prepared where they do not guarantee quality and food hygiene. He urged people to eat food high in vitamin C and to go to the clinic immediately with symptoms of colds or upset stomachs, because self-medication can "mask the disorder". Source: Por Esto

Tony GarciaI found the turtle in the patio of my house this noon.after be missing from three weeks I think,we'll one morning I was prepared to go ISLA contoy noe my nephew found this turtle on the street across olivias restaurant,he toke it and bringing to home leave inside the bathroom,but I forget and went to the restroom and leave open the door ,when we come back from the tour the turtle been desapear,we don t find it,so. I put in the icebox,cut a piece of tomato one cherry, he was very hungry because to ten minutes he already ate all,,coming back home I put in bag like fishing net,the turtle was sleeping taking siesta after having good meal,I arrive to betsy house put it the yard where chickens are,so now it s an happy turtle and one more pet for the animal family..
