Dec 31...

>>Large gatherings will not be allowed today, Dec. 31st.
>>You are invited to watch the fireworks from your home at 11:59pm and enjoy the show in the company of your loved ones.
>>The municipal police will reinforce security and checkpoints (preventative filters). Don't drink & drive.
>>To prevent crowds, Punta Sur will be closed, where locals and visitors traditionally gather to receive the first dawn of the New Year, in order to lessen the chains of possible contagion. Also, there will be capacity controls at the main beaches such as Playa Centro and North Beach.
>>By official decree, parties with crowds of people, closing off of streets, and extended hours for sales of alcoholic beverages will not be allowed.
>>Health safety protocols will be intensified, such as the mandatory and correct use of face masks, frequent hand washing and healthy distancing. The presence of the "Yellow Hats/Vests" has been reinforced on the island.
>>Joint operations will be carried out by the municipal departments of Fiscalizacion/Inspection-Enforcement and Civil Protection in locations with large influxes of people to verify that in sanitary measures are in place and that there is compliance with official provisions.
With a firm commitment to continue caring for the people of Isla Mujeres, the municipal government has undertaken joint actions with the various state and federal institutions to prevent a possible increase in cases of Covid-19 in the municipality and state.
Residents are urged to reduce unnecessary 'circulation' (going out and about) and to protect themselves, and especially those who are more vulnerable such as seniors, infants and pregnant women. The Mayor urged people to wash their hands frequently, maintain healthy distancing, to wear their masks correctly and at all times, to avoid kissing and shaking hands, and not to go to crowded places.
The last graphic is from the Governor, who's starting a "new tradition to take care of Delta and Omicron". It's a New Year's tradition to wear different color underwear depending on what you're wishing for...White for Health, Yellow for Money, or Red for Love.
We Wish You a Happy & Healthy New Year!!

Dec. 26...Municipal police were investigating at the downtown hotel SueƱo Maya, where a male body was found, which appears to have been deceased for about three days. It is unknown whether he died of natural causes or if violence was involved, according to the preliminary information.

The Mayor says....After a very busy Christmas, Santa Claus is finally ready to rest and enjoy our beautiful beaches, with the Grinch. If you are also ready to enjoy going to the beach with your family, help us keep them clean by always throwing your trash away, and most importantly, don't forget to respect sanitary measures. Let's continue taking care and maintaining healthy distancing!
