Isla Mujeres reports three more cases of C19 for a total of 256 with 23
deaths and 206 recovered. The state geoportal for 1/20 reports 9 active
cases by colonia with 1 downtown, 1 in La Gloria, 2 in Salina Grande, 4
in 23 de Noviembre, and 1 in Meteorologico. On the national map for
1/19, the municipality continues to report 178 suspicious and 155
negatives. Today's report still isn't published at 3:30p.
The DIF social service agency continues to provide pastries and yogurt for residents affected this situation caused by Covid-19, which are available at the DIF facilities Monday thru Friday 10a-1p, in coordination with the Chedraui company.
Cambio 22 reports that a foreign resident of Isla Mujeres, Harold L., 75, died of an apparent heart attack yesterday, Wednesday around 4:30. The cause of death will be determined by autopsy, and it is speculated that the exertion of pushing his motorcycle may have contributed. He had arrived at a mechanical workshop in colonia Salina Chica, on Campo Deportivo street, pushing the motorcycle with visible effort, and requested they find the problem and repair it. While one of the workers attended to the vehicle, the septuagenarian went across the street to rest against the soccer-field wall. When the mechanic had finished with the moto and approached the foreigner, he received no response. When the Red Cross ambulance arrived a few minutes later, the gentleman was lying on the sidewalk, without vital signs, and the paramedics said he may have died from a possible heart attack. Officers with the municipal police also responded, and they informed the Ministerio Publico, who took charge of the body, which was transferred to SEMEFO (Forensic Medical Service) for the autopsy. The article said notification was giving to the foreigner's acquaintances, but he has no relatives living here. Our condolences to his family and friends.

Due to the recent rains, the municipal Department of Parks, Gardens & Potholes had to take a break in their pothole-repair program because the areas to be repaired must be dry for the material to work and have greater durability. The head of the department said they have finished in the Continental Zone on the avenue of Ranch Viejo, as well as the Hotel Zone to El Meco. Works on the island were resumed in colonia Guadalupana, and from the area known as the Chiapanecos to the cargo ferry, as permitted by the weather, with intentions to cover the main streets of the island, and into the colonias.
The Vice-Chairman of the AMHMAR Committee, Roberto Sanchez Okrucky, explained that this manatee came from Florida, and belongs to a type that don't normally live in this area. This individual was identified thru the United States Wildlife Agency, because of the distinctive marks caused by a boat propeller. After capturing the animal, it will be taken to the Tortugranja for blood analysis and a couple days of observation. Mr. Sanchez Okrucky concluded with assurances that after the medical check-up is completed, the manatee will be released and won't be kept in captivity.

Jan. 6 Dia de los Tres Reyes/Three Kings Day
The Thor Heyerdahl traveling school-sailboat normally visits in late January-early February with about three dozen high school students on board. Under the tutelage of the experienced crew, the students learn to work together, sailing and navigating, as well as receiving their normal lessons. They sail from Germany to the Caribbean, but it's very possibly suspended this year.
